Hidden gem
Lovely course, very well kept and friendly staff. Challenging holes and a tough walk but worth it
Well worth the drive
First time we have visited and will certainly return. Friendly guy in the pro shop with a couple of members gave us the lay of the land. Good layout, well maintained and the greens were very good. Although it doesn't look long on the card, it certainly played it. A few steep hills which would be a struggle for some with restricted mobility but we really enjoyed it.
Lovely winter wonderland
Course played perfectly on a very cold day, keep us warm with the challenge
Christmas Golf
Really pleasant round of golf with friends over the Christmas period. The course was in really good condition considering the time of year and there was very few restrictions. All of the staff were friendly and the facilities good. I would definitely recommend this course for casual golf or society games.
A hidden gem!
This was my second visit to Garesfield and a great reminder of what a fantastic course it is. The course is in a beautiful setting and the layout is superb. The condition for the time of year was excellent, the greens were lovely and true and the fairways still lush. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food was good too. I've played hundreds of courses over the years and I have to say, out of all of them, I think Garesfield is the best value for money course bar none. If you're golfing in the North East, make the trip, you won't be disappointed.
Another cracking experience
Played at very short notice, enjoyed it again, some really good holes, very quiet, greens I thought excellent, my putting at times not so good tho, really enjoyed my 2 rounds at this course, would highly recommend it.
Major problem at Garesfield GC
First I need to make it clear that Garesfield is a good course & club that I would usually thoroughly recommend to anyone. However, the club has a serious problem with the new "the bunker" holiday cottage - during our visit it was clearly being used for the consumption of cannabis - the smell coming from the premises was quite significant both when we arrived and when we left the course - for this reason (bearing in mind that the club is a family orientated venue) I simply cannot recommend that anyone visit - the club needs to address the issue VERY QUICKLY which may include closure of the cottage if it cannot be managed properly. The club also needs to be aware that some players are current serving police officers.
Walking back the years
When I first played this course, the mature firs lining the fairways were saplings. 50-odd years ago! They certainly act as a wind-break, which is some relief. There’s now 18 holes rather than the old 9. The fairway turf is thick and lush underfoot, just don’t expect your ball to fly out of the second cut in places!
It’s a true test for the walking golfer. Lovely parkland, testing greens, great views.
We don’t get back that often but we’ll always try and complete this rite of passage, for as long as our legs will continue to carry us round!
Great value for money
Some really interesting and challenging holes. Course was in great condition. Greens hard given the time of the year and little rain but very quick and nice to putt on. Some blind approaches which make it challenges for first timers. Sunday lunch after was fantastic especially for £10. All staff were lovely. Would definitely return
Very well presented course
Live played here several time and. It’s a very lovely course.
Excellent, but not for the faint hearted
We thoroughly enjoyed our round on Sunday and from arrival were given a friendly welcome, advised on tee off timings and who was around us and sent on our way. The weather was perfect, not too hot and the rain stayed off until the 18th.
The only difficulty of this course is the umber of hills, therefore those who struggle on a general 18 hole course should request a buggy.
Another enjoyable round
Lovely afternoon for golf despite torrential rain shower when I was slogging up the hill at the 12th. Staff friendly as always. Course in great condition. Flew round front 9 then got caught up from 10th onwards - but not too slow. Really enjoyed it and I will be back
Value for money
Met by friendly staff in the Pro shop , sorted and on the 1st tee 15 mins early. Played here before a few years ago and its definitely improving . Only one small downside were no stakes and very few distance markers .
Good weather and scenic views made the round enjoyable.
Will be back .
Another lovely evening
The course was a lot drier than last time I played and in fantastic condition. Greens were very firm and fast. Fairways in great condition. The 13th is one of my favourite holes in Northumberland. Was treated to a red kite following me down the 5th - magnificent.
