Tremendous value for money...... wished I lived closer
Played early June and course was in great condition, which is testament to the green keeping staff after the poor Spring. Greens were lovely - true and good pace. The holes wind through trees located on a hillside so holes have impressive elevations and drops meaning a drive hit with the same power can go either 180 yds or 300 yds depending where you are. The first few holes are pretty straight and good warm up holes. But after that there's more to the course. Lots to challenge you but plenty of room for the wayward. Staff were really friendly. On the day we played (Friday), there was no one around until 11am to serve food, which was fine for our 11:30 tee time but you may want to check for earlier tee times. Overall absolute bargain for money.
Garesfield
Fairways covered in cut grass.tee boxes need a cut.must b fit to play here very hilly at times.greens in great knick.
Garesfield round with friend
Course was very wet and fairways weren’t cut short in many places. Greens were better and bunkers were fine. As it’s quite a long course and very undulating, it was a hard round and we both played below average.
Calming course
Have played this course before and really enjoyed 18 holes this weekend. As always staff very friendly and welcoming. Course on great condition and only damp in a couple of spots despite heavy overnight rain. A lovely relaxing Saturday afternoon - just what was needed after a busy week at work.
1st time playing here, Can't fault it
Cracking day, first time playing at Garesfield and we really enjoyed it. Only downside was all the greens were winter greens but when the normal greens reopen they should be absoutley spot on. Had pretty much a clear course in front of us the whole way round until the 18th hole. Lad I played with 'Dan' nearly drove to one of the greens from his tee shot but then went on to 4 putt it so the less said about that the better.
Will 100% be back to play this course again. Guinness was tremendous in the clubhouse
Lovely course layout
Really nice course will be returning in the summer
Great round of golf for our first visit. Pretty much had the course to ourselves so got round in a good time. Only downside was it was winter greens but the majority of them were in good condition. Will 100% be back. Shagger Dan nearly got to the green on a par 4 off his drive. 4 putted it like but the less said about that the better. Guinness was tremendous in the club house
Value for money
Only played 9 holes, but good value at GolfNow price.
Still had proper greens on all holes except one. Course was in good condition considering recent weather.
Poor
Got charged £25 per person and they’d not only hollow tinned the greens but had winter greens on selected holes which never got mentioned at the time of booking. For this time of year should be any more than £15.
To be honest there was a touch of morning frost on the surface but no need to have winter greens.
The practice area is as basic as it comes. One driving net and on small putting green that has no resemblance to the actual greens.
I did enjoy the course layout, a good challenge. It’ll help to have someone with you that has played before as there is a few deceiving holes.
Ace wee course
Excellent course, has some blind holes so useful to have a golf course mapping app at hand if you haven't played here before. A few hills to pull your trolley up but don't let these put you off. This is a great wee course with some tricky holes to test players. The course was a bit wet when i played which meant a few fairways were a bit too waterlogged to get any bounce but was still in good condition on the whole. Would definitely play here again.
Lovely course
This is one of my favourite courses in the NE of England. Interesting challenge with a good mix of holes set in a wonderful parkland setting close to Chopwell Woods. A number of fascinating holes and difficult to pick a favourite but the 13th stands out for me. Course is in lovely condition and the evening that this reviews pertains to there was not a breath of wind and the sun setting meant that the atmosphere around the course was very relaxing. Staff and members very welcoming.
Great course, friendly service - shame about the dog walkers
We loved this course - it’s a good mixture of easier and more challenging holes, making the most of the landscape to be a memorable and interesting course.
The staff were very friendly in the clubhouse.
Our only issue was with the constant dog walkers wandering aimlessly across fairways - at one point a dog off its lead actually picked up my ball from the fairway and marked it with its teeth. The owner didn’t seem the least interested, and I really hate to see dog walkers abusing their privileges and endangering themselves and their animals.
Keep them off the course if they can’t be trusted to keep to the edges and keep their dogs on leads.
We would consider bringing our society to this course, but not while there are dogs roaming free on the course.
Love this course
I’ve played here twice now and it’s a fantastic course. But as in my previous review the flies, I know this is nothing that the club can control but I almost considered walking off after six holes the flies are relentless, which I’d a huge shame as I say the course is great and for the price you can’t knock it
Regularly
Play here regularly as it’s a nice course and relatively cheap and local for me
Can’t fault the course at all
Well Presented Club and Course
First time playing this course after a recommendation from a friend . Friendly staff and member . Course in lovely condition, specially the greens and a very challenging layout with some really well thought out holes. Cost very reasonable and another visit a definite.
Lovely course..much underrated and great value for money
..set in beautiful woods and parkland. I really love this course. It is set in lovely woodland. Holes are quite challenging.
Some great hot deals. Play it..You will enjoy.
£13.99 and course to ourselves.
Great condition. Course quiet so a three hour round. Hilly though in parts so take a breath before going up 13th. Will return
Good Challenge
Course was in nice condition overall. Relatively narrow, tight mown, fairways and slow greens (well watered) on the day. Generally a right to left course. Plenty of ups and downs so some course knowledge helps. Take a trolley!
