Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
About
The Navy Golf Course Seal Beach is a 27-hole facility that includes the championship Destroyer Course and the nine-hole executive Cruiser Course. The 6,780-yard Destroyer Course presents a challenge even for low handicappers with a slew of hazards coming into play throughout. The small greens have challenging slopes ranging from subtle breaks to dramatic drop-offs. To make them even tougher, you'll find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the edges. The tricky doglegs, which are mostly par 4s, will force you to think carefully about your club selection, and to top it all off, water makes an appearance on almost every hole. It's a long golf course that feels even longer due to the rolling terrain, but it is more forgiving than it seems with long, wide fairways that won't penalize you for being slightly errant.

Dont Play here
8 min tee times. Took 3 Hours to finish 9 holes and we left. 5 groups on a few holes. Absolute joke. Called the pro shop and no one picked up. Marshall didnt know what he was doing. Dont waste your time. Plenty of other courses that dont overcrowd.
Great course for price and location
Typically gets an older crowd, which inevitably is a slower crowd. With that being said, greens rolled very well for late December. For the price, one of the better courses in the area. Appreciate that the course starts out easier, helps you get warmed up for the round.
The Destroyer earns its name
I booked a 7:45 time midweek in late December. It was cold and we had a frost delay that put starting times back about 90 minutes. The staff did a great job reorganizing tee times and got me out only 45 minutes after my reservation.
Since we were in the early groups, pace of play was fantastic. We finished in 3 and 1/2 hours.
The course was in good shape. Fairways were nice. The greens putted pretty fast, but still held approach shots.
Be warned, the course it actually pretty tough. It was windy, which is typical based on the few times I have played here. There are lots of trees. The most difficult feature is the greens. They have A LOT of slope, humps and tiers. There are many places where a putt of chip that comes up short will roll back to your feet. My only qualm about condition was the number of un-repaired ball marks.
Overall, I had good time despite the weather and difficulty of the course.
Extremely Slow Play. Useless Marshal
I teed off at 11;38 with 3 others. There was a group of 12 walkers ahead of us. They were extremely slow. After 2 hours at 30 minutes, we were 30 minutes behind pace, and still at hole 8!
I called the golf shop to complain about the pace of play. The guy there tells me it is delayed on all the holes ahead of us. I asked where was the marshal? The marshal had no clue what to do. He was just hanging out in his cart, doing some maintenance.
We finished after sun had set. One hour behind schedule.
Avoid this course. What a disappointment.
Post Shotgun Start
Nothing better than a Hot Deal at Navy with a tee time after a shotgun start finishes! Love this place - with breakfast until 3pm
Pretty nice course, but pace of play is quite bit slow.
I like this course layout. Some holes are long and challenging. Pace of play is depending on your front group. Last time was 5 hours. After we moved to hole 4 (short par 4), two group were already waiting there. Same thing happened at hole 9. Green was little bit tricky last time, but me and my friends enjoyed.
Fast green with double lie
Well maintained as good as Tustin Ranch and the green was very fast yet not too easy at all.
Destroyer
I understand daylight savings time. But i booked a round on a Saturday at 115pm. I figured i should be able to finish 18 before sun down, around 5pm. Nope, got only you 14th. I was addedb to a 2 some with a 2 some in front of us. If you don't go early morning to 10am, you risk not finishing. That's the 3rd time it's happened on this course for me. Oh well. Play through golfers! It's a wonderful course though.
Great course
This course is always in great shape when I've played. My only complaint is that some users neglect to repair their divots on the greens, l repaired 4-5 per green on my last round!
Destroyed again
This course usually beats me up. This time was no different. The bunkers were particularly wicked and the greens were pretty fast. There was a bit of confusion at the first tee as there was no starter.
I will be back.
Course in great shape
Always enjoy this course, always in good condition, staff takes pride in helping to enhance your golfing experience. Good course to challenge weekend golfer and still hold up to low handicappers.
Greens were very good and fairways were good. I was only disappointed with the pace of play teeing off at 7:15 in the morning for a 4.5 hr. round.
