Length 6580 yards

Rating 72.1

Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.

A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.

Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.

Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Always Solid

Hilton Head National is my go to round when in the area. The course is always in really good shape. And it is usually cheaper than rounds on the Island. The price has slowly increased over the years. I paid $109 this morning. And I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I’ve paid over $100 there. I feel like for that much range balls should be included. But they are not. Also, the greens had been sanded this morning it looked like-which I know if necessary-but customers should be given a break on the price. Never should a person have to pay over $100 and have sandy greens. But with all that said it’s a great course. Other than the sand on the greens it was in great shape. The layout is really fun and won’t beat you up. I struggled with the driver nightly today and still was within a couple shots of my average. It’s a second shot golf course for sure. And even though the greens were sandy. They still rolled pretty good.

You start off with a medium length dogleg right par 4 to a pretty big green. Number 2 is a longer par 4. With a very elevated green. You don’t want to miss your approach left. 3 is a straight away par 5 that is a good chance for a par. 4 is a medium length par 3 with a carry over a pretty big waste bunker that runs from tee to green. 5 is a shorter pretty hard dogleg right. 6 is the signature hole. A short par 4. With water all down the right and a cross bunker that eats up half the fairway. There are several options on how to play. The green is long and narrow. 7 is a short par 3. With marsh right and long. 8 is a long left turning par 5. With a small green that slopes off on all sides. 9 is a short straight away par 4. As is 10. Both are good chances to score. 11 and 12 are both dogleg left par 4. 12 turns more and is more up the hill than 11 but both are harder holes on the course. 13 is a short downhill par 3. There are several bunkers around it. With a really deep on hidden behind the green. 14 is a medium length dog leg right par 4 with a carry over a waste bunker on the approach. 15 is another shorter par 3 with the green sitting at an odd angle to the tee. 16 is a long par 5. You have to keep your shots to the right hand half of the fairway. Otherwise a large tree will block out your approach from the left. 17 is a shorter par 4 to a plateau fairway that drops downhill to the green. 18 is a good finishing hole. With marsh on the right that cuts in and constricts the fairway about 100 yards out. The approach is uphill to a large double green it used to share with an old 9 holes that were taken out when the by pass was built.

All in all it’s a great day on the course for an average golfer. And you won’t be disappointed if you play here.

One of Hilton Head's best to play.

If you are planning a golf trip to Hilton Head make sure this course is on your list. Its a must play. Conditions were great and everybody working there was friendly and helpful. Greens were probably best we played all week. Not much more to say but play this course.

AFTER MANY YEARS, DISAPPOINTED

I have been playing this course for years and it was always a 'go to' when we vacation on HHI. This year there seeded to be more severe restriction for handicapped golfer access to fairways- for no apparent good reason - as six holes (33%) were off limits for carts. I have two severely arthritic joints - left knee and right ankle. plus a ranger seeing me walk with difficulty had the gall to tell us we were running 20 min behind - even though no one else was in sight!

I am permanently striking it from our list! the next day (it was drizzling at the start) we played Fazio course at Palmetto dunes and my GPS cart let me drive right up to the greens on all faiways!

Excellent Course

Course was in great shape and the greens were excellent. Weather was cloudy & cold but it didn't take away from the course. Fairways were generous so you can score here. I would def come back!

Highly recommended

Excellent conditions tees through greens, especially the smooth true fairly fast greens. The course is quite wide open and forgiving, in part because the areas under the trees are very well blown clear of leaves. This was helpful to those of us who pulled or sliced tee balls a little more often than we would have hoped to. Lastly, they are very friendly, helpful, and professional. I was absent-minded enough to leave my lob wedge on # 14, but couldn't recall when I had last played it (rarely used), so one of the staff drove the last several holes until he found it on # 14. What a great guy, and staff!

Good course, Good value for dollar

We really enjoyed the course. December in the Lowcountry is a special place. Great layout. Greens were in great shape. The course had a lot of rain for a few days before we played. The course dried out quite well. The bar staff was very friendly. Food was typical but decent. Didn't love the pro. Not very friendly

Always solid

Stopped in for a round on my way from Kiawah to Florida. This is one of my favorite courses anywhere. It’s always in good shape. Even when it’s crowded the pace of play is decent. The greens are great. Some of the smoothest I’ve ever played. And quick in a nice smooth way. I will say that the fairways had not been overseeded this year. Only painted which is a bit of a disappointment. However the layout is awesome. It won’t beat you up. But the short holes are some of the most challenging. If you’re in the area it’s the best deal for your money around.

Hilton Head National is a must play when. In the area. I get down a time or 2 a year and play there each time. It’s a great layout. A lot of fun. Not overly long or hard but great fun. And it’s always in really good shape. The greens are some of the best anywhere. Smooth and a great pace. And the price is much better than most of the courses on the island. You can’t beat what you pay for here. Give it a try. You’ll be glad you did!

The course was in great shape tee boxes to the greens. Fairways and rough just right. We played the blue tees and it was challenging but fair. Some great rewards if you are willing to take the chances.

Really Good Course, Especially enjoyed Back Nine, Great Value

My wife and I planned a week at HHI for vacation. Wanted to do the normal beach, tour, dinning, biking and of course golf; we live on a Champion Golf Course in Cary, NC, play regularly and wanted to try 3 or 4 “best value” courses. HH National was one of them. It exceeded our expectations, highly recommend and will come back again on our next vacation at HHI

Hilton Head National hit it right down the Middle!

Really enjoyed the total experience there. The staff was friendly and attentive. The course was in great shape and enjoyed having the GPS built in on the cart. Highly recommend the only course in HH without a house on it!
