Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Nice layout beautiful greens and condition
Great place to work your way round the course without getting into too much trouble .Played off back tees at 6700 yards. Good experience. Range was included but was closed for 2 hours .
Good Value
National is always in pretty good shape. Some hard rain last couple nights has some standing water and washed out bunkers. Understandable with the amount of rain, surprisingly it played pretty well and the greens were always a nice roll.
Always a favorite to play while on HHI. Very nice layout and course in very good shape considering summer heat.
Great Round
We score a "hot" time and it was well worth it. Every aspect of the course was in 5***** condition. Plenty of coolers on the course to refill water bottles and a cart that made frequent trips around the course for snacks. Club house staff was great, welcome attendants were nice, starter let us go off 30 minutes early. Excellent round, well worth the $$$.
Great course! However alot of straight holes. Not to challenging. Greens a little slow.
Nice course! Greens rolled nicely could use some water. Fairways were plush. Ample landing area. Definitely worth playing.
Nice lay out, but nothing incredibly special
There were some pretty holes but not a whole lot featured water or marsh. The fairways and greens were in good shape for the most part but the greens were a little slow. The tee boxes were splotchy on some holes. Some areas of disrepair - washed out mulch or dead spots around bunkers or greens. No edging along a lot of the side walks. this Is a manageable course for the average golfer. We had a special rate from a hot deal, but I wouldn’t be nearly as happy if I had spent $90 a person. All in all, it’s a good course. Some holes are better than others, there are some great views but also a few bad spots.
Nice Course all around !!
I was impressed. After all the rain we had the course was in good shape. Nice layout. The course is fair. I’ll definitely be back.
Great conditions!
Fairways ample wide and very easy to hit from. Ball floated on top of the grass. Greens rolled very true. Not fast greens, but it was the hot season. Held very well also. Pace of play on a Sunday was awesome.
Must play
Very nice course director of golf was super nice to us
Great layout
Course was in very good condition with the greens smooth but pretty slow.
Glad we came back....
We've had a family renunion on HHI for the last 31 years; we've played HHN probably 28 or 29 of those years. It's a great layout, challenging all levels of golfers.
Honestly, we very nearly scratched it off of our "must play" list because of the way we were treated by the rangers last year (they were on us unnecessarily like white on rice about pace of play, at one point insisting that we "skip a hole"!).
I'm glad we decided to write of last year as an anomaly! The staff was over-the-top friendly. We saw rangers all over the course, but whenever they stopped it was to say ask how we were doing and to remind us to have fun!
And fun we had. This is a great, great track. A good mix of mid- to long-par 4s, par 5s that are not quite reachable in two, but are not "tricked out" in any way (that is, you can bang away with your driver and 3-wood and "almost" get home). HINT: Play the blues!
Course -- as always -- is in PERFECT condition.
We will definitely be back next year.
Best public course in Bluffton.
I'm a local resident and have had the pleasure of playing the course twice. Challenging but fun golfing for any skill level. I would pick this course over any in the Bluffton area. Great and entertaining ventage pictures of Gary Player, Arnie, Roger Maltbie, Fuzzy, and course architects in the clubhouse. If you're looking for a difficult, risk/reward course with a bit more water go next door to Old South. Swing away!

Played at 2 pm on a very warm afternoon but didn’t mind the heat because we enjoyed the round so much. Good layout, friendly staff, very few golfers on the course and greens that rolled true. Will make it a priority to get back next time in HH.
Clouse was in good shape and fun to play.
Good course, good value, nice staff and in excellent condition. Play it down and enjoy
All around great course
We arrived to the Hilton Head National GC on a Sunday morning around 9:30am for a 10am tee time and were surprised to find ourselves on the first tee as a double with a threesome in front of us. Judging from the other courses we’d played during the week we were expecting a 5-hour round but we ended up playing 18 beautiful holes in less than 3 hours. The fairways and greens were in pristine condition - my only complaint was about not hitting those nice fairways nearly as often as I should’ve... (They are narrow at times.)
Good Course
Golf course was in good shape. Marshalls on the course were making sure pace of play was good. I’d recommend the course to anyone who visits. I visit Hilton Head several times a year for vacation, and this course is one of the best.
