Length 6580 yards

Rating 72.1

Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.

A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.

Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.

Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Great course

My wife and I played early so pace of play was not an issue. Fun course with lots of variety in holes in addition to being a beautiful course. I would recommend to any level player.

One of the cheapest places to play

Greens were great. Unfortunately we played in the morning dew and they had just over seeded their greens. Pace of play in the off season was fantastic, less than four hours. Great course for golfers who don't hit a high ball, there were no force carries to any greens. Judging how the ball hits bermuda collars is tricky. Had wide fairways, big greens and several short par 3s. I thought the back played harder and longer than the front. If you stay on the island you may have traffic issues reaching this course during peak season. It would be very difficult to walk this course although between greens and tees the ride was very scenic.

Excellent quality

I thought the course was in excellent shape. Very challenging course with several holes set up so you could hit driver, or hybrid, or even a 5 iron if you wanted to attack it a different way. It would definitely be a course you would like to play again to figure out a better approach on some of the holes. The gps in the carts made my laser almost unnecessary and was spot on. It didn't hurt I knocked in a 30 footer for par on one hole and chipped in for birdie on the 18th. Still ended up shooting my bogey golf. Also had 4 good sets of tees for different levels, we went with the regulation, I think it played about 6200yds.

Course nice, but no services

There was no drink cart, and the kitchen was open after our round (middle of the day). Finished round and couldn't get anything except stale chips to eat.
Course itself was in good condition especially considering the rain earlier that day.

Great Carolina course that is fun to play

Course is tree lined but there are enough room so its fair. Conditions are great with few exceptions where water logged area that was baked in heat that turned the area crusty on the top with mud on the bottom. Greens rolled true and overall its very fun course to play. Its nothing to brag home about but definitely worth playing.

Loved this course!

First time to visit Hilton Head. Played several courses during the week but this course is in my top two. The course condition and course layout was fantastic. There are GPS units in the cart to guide you thru the course. Most of the fairways are tree lined, well placed bunkers, and many have water hazards. The fairways are narrow so you've got to hit the short grass if you are going to score well. The greens had just been fertilized but they and were in terrific shape. All of the staff I came in contact with were very friendly and helpful. This will be my first stop next time down.
