Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Beautiful Time had by all!
First time playing the course. We played at twilight & finished with time to spare. Had a terrific time, course was beautiful! Greens were in great shape! We'll play here again for sure!
Great, Playable Golf Course
Upon arriving, the flowers and grounds were impressive. The staff and set up were professional. The course was challenging, but did not beat you up. The GPS made it doable for the fist time player.
Hilton Head national
The course was in great shape and a good track. The staff could care less about customer service or pace of play.
Hilton Head National
Course was in very good condition but thought overall the course was just not very dramatic. Very few of the holes were what I would consider memorable. I would have been disappointed if I had paid full green fees.
Solid course, very good condition, outstanding staff
This is what a resort course should be:
Great staff from start to finish
Well designed course in very good shape
Good pace of play
Nice club house food and drink
Good value
I don't know if I want any of these things to improve significantly because undoubtedly the price would go up and value down. I played the Dye Valley Course at Sawgrass earlier in the week. It was in better condition, better design, and had fancier facilities (I had a worse score I might mention ). It cost 3 times as much.
I'll will definitely go back to Hilton Head National and I will use the saving to buy a new wedge or maybe get a lesson.
Will be back!
A lot of rain the previous few days, so cart path only.
Our first round of golf since January and found the course forgiving. No OB anywhere, the carts were satellite to give you yardage. Basic flat and straight holes. Greens in great shape, some t boxes poor.
pace of play
our twosome teed off at 2 pm , we could have played the course in 2.5 hours instead the starter put us behind a wedding party of 7 non golfers,we endured 4.5 hours of cart path only golf watching these hackers, marshal was driving around but did nothing to increase speed of play, when we finally finished the club house was locked up. the course was in good shape.will need to think about returning to this course b/c of slow play
Good Time Despite Weather
Good time despite prior rain making it necessary to keep cart on path. Played as a single. Course has not disappointed in 20 years. Look forward to playing again next year.
Wish weather was better
Played 18 on a rainy day in March. Course was in good shape, greens were in perfect condition. Finally had to stop after 15 holes due to wet conditions and equipment. We had a 2:30 tee time, got back to the clubhouse around 6:15 PM and everybody was gone, place was closed. Left cart at bag drop, for $140 you think someone could have least made sure we were ok. Overall I would still play this course again, probably with an earlier tee time.
Pricey, but a very enjoyable course
We really liked how the course was well marked so that we weren't navigating our way to the next hole. The drink cart appeared 4-5 times during play. Fairways are wide and forgiving. We found our shots most times even when they were inside the tree line. Distances are generally well marked. On our day we were restricted to cart path only which was a real nuisance given the width of the fairways. Sand traps are easily seen and mostly avoidable.
Great condition in the early season
Returned with my son to plan HHN and was not disappointed. The course has lots to offer for those from the White tees (me) and those from the black tees (my son). Good variety, great condition for early March. The value was good taking into consideration the condition, level of difficulty and the club house/range.
Worth the the visit and will return again.
OVER RATED
GRANTED THE COURSE WAS IN GOOD SHAPE,BUT FOR THE MONEY YOU CAN FIND BETTER DEALS. THIS WAS ACTUALY MY SECOND TIME HERE BECAUSE THE FIRST TIME WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO GET NINE IN DUE TO SUPER SLOW PACE .THEY DID GIVE US A CREDIT FOR THE NINE NOT PLAYED BUT THE OTHE GUYS HAD TO LEAVE SO I CAME BACK & USED THE CREDIT. THE PACE OF PLAY WAS A BETTER THIS TIME
Great green's, well maintained.
One of the best public play courses in our area. A real fun course.
fun course but
i had not played national in two years and was looking forward to playing here again. a fun course with great fast greens. the fairways however were thin and in some places barely there. i have played national at this time of year in the past and was slightly disappointed. and a diverse mix of holes, fun layout.
Winter golf
One of the best conditioned courses around. Haven't played it in the summer, but thr greens are very nice in the winter.
Well worth playing
Staff was extremely helpful, we were paired up with a couple from Canada and had an excellent time. My wife is a beginner and the other couple were very encouraging.
Impressive layout
Everything was excellent except pace of play. 4.5 is too long.
hilton head national, always a great place to play
Rain the night before, car path only, play was a little slow with group ahead but staff came out to adreshed problem. Fairway to green great shape. Turned out to be a good time.
Excellent set up
Hilton Head National was playable for all levels of golfers depending your choice of tees. The course was in excellent condition and greens rolled well.
Great Value
We played this course yesterday and enjoyed it very much. As an over-100 golfer, I found the course challenging but not discouraging. Beautiful course, and everyone who worked there was helpful and friendly. Greens were in fine shape and consistent. We tested out several of the bunkers too, and they were sandy enough and well kept. Golf Now pricing made this a great value. Definitely recommend.
