Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

THIS COURSE IS VERY FRIENDLY
My first visit to Hilton Head National was an overall pleasant experience. The fairways are wide and the extreme rough is sparse enough to locate shanked balls! The greens were huge and most of them like carpet. Even though my golf was well below par, we witnessed a lot of wildlife (1 alligator, 2 turkeys and a ton of raccoon and bear squirrels). Enjoy!
Overall enjoyable experience
Great course, beautiful layout, no houses on the course, you feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere. The course was in perfect condition, the staff was helpful and courteous. Has the feel of a private course. Only complaint is that they charge for range balls....but overall high marks for this course.
Wonderful course on mainland near Hilton Head
We really loved the course, it was in excellent condition. The course was challenging but fair. No houses, just woods and wildlife. We would definitely play it again.
Nice, quiet course
Enjoyed the course, conditions were very good, Super Friendly Staff, Course was in great shape. The course is proud of the fact there are in a large wooded area without houses lining the fairways. Would play it again.
fantastic overall experience
Great layout, great range, great course, and great experience.
The holes were semi tight and had a lot of character the fairways were mostly pure but had a few sandy spots the greens ran about 9.5 on the stimp were firm and quick.
Great value thru golf now.com
Friendly staff, green was smooth , generous fairway,
Pin placement was tough today but fun.
Great condition
Great course and staff. The condition and lay out are excellent.
Excellent conditions
HH National has the best, smoothest greens in the area. Slow today due to other players. Still a great experience.
Good. Course / good value
Second year to play this course---- once again very enjoyable experience on a well maintained course.
Great Course, Consistently Excellent
Good conditions throughout. Layout is challenging from all tees. Approaches to greens always fair. Very reasonable green fees.
Mr. and Mrs. B from nj
We would like to go back and play again without having to come back and forth because of 4 lightning sirens. The course was is very good shape and it was a nice layout. Nice staff and restaurant too.
Always good
This was our third time playing this course over the past few years. It is always in great condition. Greens were perfect. Everything is right in front of you, nothing is hidden or tricked up. Great course for high handicappers as well as low handicappers. There are no out of bounds and all of the wooded areas are played as laterals, so play moves along at a nice pace.
Cart Path Only
Played day after torrentail rains. Cart Path Only, but the course drained excepionally well. Few "casual Water" spots. Course in great condition considering. Staff good.
First Time Here
The course was very fair, and in good condition. We were the first group out in the morning, paired as a foursome. All of the groups behind us were twosomes, and we felt pushed most of the round, although we played in four hours. Overall, I recommend this course, and would definitely play it again.
Outstanding
Course in excellent shape. Fairways open and greens were very fast. Enjoyed our round and look forward to playing here again. Course staff very professional and friendly.
SUPERIOR GOLF COURSE
Beautifully manicured course, in the best condition of any course I have played in a long time. Greens perfect, fairways perfect. Staff very friendly, I would highly recommend this course to everyone. Best course in the Hilton Head area!!!
My new favorite course
Perfectly manicured and beautiful greens. The beauty of the course belies its challenges. Not a lot of water but gently rolling slopes may put your ball into high grass or send it to the beech.
Normal Gary Player course
Typical G Player course. Not much character. Excellent condition, wide fairways, large greens. Only 4 holes are memorable.
Course was in perfect shape!
I am an average player and the fairways were wide open and no homes or buildings! Greens and fairwYs were perfect! Staff was right there when we got out of care to tend or needs and after also cleaning our clubs and asking how we enjoyed it! It was great!
