Length 6580 yards

Rating 72.1

Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.

A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.

Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.

Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Perfect for the ~13 handicaper

Course was in great shape. Greens a little bumpy due to recent punching, but that seems to be the norm this time of year. Fairways and everything else were great. Very forgiving course!

Very scenic course

Fairways and rough areas were in very good condition. The greens were still recovering from their Spring aeration. Staff was very professional. Highly recommend this course. Lots of beautiful scenery and the course accepts marginal shots without beating you up. Perfect vacation golf course.

Hilton Head National

We will be back! Fun, fair, and challenging. The greens needed another two weeks to get back to good playing condition from aeration, but still playable. We are going to get our group to come here next February, Loved the course.

Nice Round of Golf

Good course, in nice shape. A little less challenging than expected, primarily because it was shorter than expected. If played again, would move back on tee box. Played really fast and staff and facilities were great.

A Keeper

I played HH National with my wife. Other than the greens, which I give them a pass on because it happened to be that time for aerification of the greens. The rest of the course was Fantastic. It was my first time playing a Gary Player course. The layout was very good. Not overly difficult and just a good fun play. My wife who has a lot of problem with other courses, mainly with women's tee boxes said these were really good. I would give this course about a month for the greens to completely heal and this course will be even better. If I get back to Hilton Head, I look forward to playing HH National again.

The price from golf know and walk'ins are the same. The green had been plugged and sanded. The people very friendly. Good price!

Great layout

If the greens were in better condition this course would have been five stars. Great layout. No smooth greens after 2 weeks of recovery from being punched was very surprising.

Greens okay

I totally enjoyed my day at the course. The course created a challenge on every hole whether short or long. My only problem was the greens were very bumpy which resulted In putts being offline. I guess I really can't blame anyone because they have to airrate the greens and i assume they hadn't been cut. Although I had a score of 89 I am satisfied with the course and my play.

Do not Play Here

To begin with we were not told when we made our reservations that the greens had been aireated. Then, our group had a 9:15 tee time and did not tee off until 9:40. Finally, the round took 5 hours and we never saw a marshal. I would never play here again.

Beautiful course

Each hole on this course could be on a golf calendar. Beautiful fairways, white sand bunkers . Greens were recently aerated so course should be perfect by beginning of July, but still very playable and enjoyable now.

First time at course

The course was set up very well for all skill levels. The website stated the greens were recently aerated and this was true. It was very difficult putting. The sand traps were well maintained and the course aside from the greens was in great condition.

There were coolers of water at every hole which were very nice but I would have liked the beverage cart to be more available. We saw the beverage cart at hole number 5 and then never again. The temperature was 90 degrees at 4pm with a humidity of 90%.

I took my two boys and father in law. They enjoyed themselves greatly. Mature trees will penalize you for errant tee shots. We enjoyed the privacy of the course.

Would play here again.

Best Greens Where?

On June 15 the greens were bumpy and slow. Traps were a mess, not raked in a long time. Did not attempt to play out of them and played a 2 putt rule on greens. Not a good experience for Fathers Day.

Nice Course

This was my first time to play the course and I enjoyed the layout. Generally there were fewer water hazards than I am used to in N. Florida and the fairways were generous compared to others in Hilton Head. The course just reopened after being closed for aeration. The fairways were in great shape. The greens were bumpy. I'd go back again anytime.

H.H. National

Great course. Excellent condition. Good layout/ variety of hole types. Minus the lighthouse, as good as Harbor Town with a much lower price! Been coming to the area annually for 16 years; wish I would have tried National sooner!

Great Place to Play

I played HH National Monday May 19 with an older golfer and his wife ( White Tees 5700 yards) and had a great trime. The length was a little short for my game ( 12 handicap) but it was fun hitting PW into most of the par 4s. The fairways were perfect and the gereens, bunckers etc all were also. Fast smooth greens with lots of undulations and many with fall offs on all sides. All holes look different so that adds to the course play. Very few hazards come ino play and most fairway traps are either too far to bother you or so close you fly them. Hard to lose balls and most areas are clean and you can find and play your ball from where it lies. Thursday May 22 I played as a single (2 1/2 hours) and played the Blue tees 6100 yards). Much more to my likelin plus I was now more familiar with the greens etc. I actually shot strokes better from the longer tees. I would highly recomend this course. Their grass driving range was a plus. I didn't try the bar or resturant so no comment on that aspect. As the advertisement says "Come Play".
