Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

beautiful course
grew up playing the course way before gcu re-did it and my curiosity was high, the course is beautiful and in fantastic shape, the changes gcu made , made courese much more difficult which was fun, i really enjoyed my round, for the price (pretty high for summer golf) id have expected a gps on carts that was disappointing, resaturant didnt have much in the way of food you could just grab and take along. but stricly rating the course really really enjoyed it
Nice Course
Course is in good shape for summer. Fairways have a few bare spots for overall are very nice. Will be a good course to play this summer.
Not playable
Workers were aerating and messing with the fairways, tees, greens all of it while we are trying to play. Hole 18 was not playable I couldn’t play it was so sandy in fairways, very minimal grass. All greens are definitely not playable and sandy. If it’s not sandy it was muddy if it was not muddy it was dirt and no grass growing at all. I wouldn’t pay more than $20 and they charged us $40+ each! Not worth money driving all the way here. Course is not in a good shape at all and there are NO notices when you checkout anywhere and no good deals either. If they are transitioning seasons then at least give us a deal?
A favorite to play in Phoenix
I really do like playing this course. Unfortunately the greens were freshly aerated so they were slow and bumpy. Course seems to hold up well in the hot Phoenix summer with very few bare areas. No problem playing out of the Bermuda rough.
Good but hot.
For the price all was great . Didn't have lots of interactions with staff.i would gladly do it again when not so hot.. just go there and have fun.
Airified greens...
Maybe one day they will give you a notice when you book that you are putting on just airified greens!
Course is going downhill. Played here before the Uni took over and just when they renovated the course. It was back then in better shape. No water stations on the course!
Greens are awesome!
This is one of my favorite courses in the valley! The course is in transition right now, so the fairways are a little rough, but the greens are always pure. I am excited to come back once the summer grass comes in. The staff always makes sure my guests and I feel welcomed. 10/10 would recommend.
Great Greens!
The greens rolled great and the staff was very friendly. The fairways are a bit rough as they are transitioning to summer grass. I will be back!
Horrible
Some fairways are burnt out. Where there is no grass it's sand or dirt. The greens were the only good thing about this course. Still no water jugs on the course. If that's the case atleast they could do is throw a bottle of water in the cooler for us. Played Sterling Grove the day prior and had 6 bottles of water in the cooler.
Pace of play was slow. Waited on every tee box.
Absolutely horrible will never play there again! Fix your "Championship" course.
Playable
Course is in transition. Greens are quick, but not true, and the fairways are that nice mix of grass and dirt. Still a nice course for the money.
GCU golf course was not in good shape
I've been waiting to play here. I won't be back. Paid a bunch for spotty fairways and a soggy golf course.
Greens were in good shape and rolled fairly well thou. But playing off dirt patches wasn't very fun.
GCU
I was able to get on on a hot deal so I only paid $20 which is a good thing. Course is in tough shape right now. I understand that they’re transitioning from Bermuda to rye or rye to Bermuda not sure.. I really think courses should shut down for a couple of weeks when they’re doing this obviously financially they might not be able to afford it but the playing conditions are just not very good during this time.
