Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

A strange experience with marshall
We booked 6 to play, a foursome following a twosome. On arrival we were told it was a slow day, a Tuesday morning at 10am. The marshall began shadowing our play a few holes into the 18, and eventually pulled up and asked us to hurry it up, but this was strange because were playing a scramble so we could play a fast foursome We were following our twosome who was advanced by about a full hole, but we were keeping up. Come to find out the semi-pro canadians behind us were giving Mark, the marshall, a hard time. At 9 holes we put the twosome behind our foursome, to see if that would help in some way, but Mark decided to ask the the twosome on the second nine to literally skip two holes to help the canadians have a better day. We all paid to play so when does this ever happen? Why did the angry canadians hold so much sway over Mark? I do not know. To his credit, he allowed the twosome to backtrack and play the missed holes, but seriously, I have never experienced anything like this. The pro shop was flatly not willing to help when I called after the game, and after a long wait they sent me to a manager phone's voicemail. My overall rating: this is well cleaned up muni-course with well placed bunkers, run by a poorly led team of folks who could all do more to make the paying golfer's experience a much better one. I will look for other courses on my next visit.
Listen snowflake, it was not me that made that a point of the conversation.
Wonderful Track, Well Maintained
Haven’t played this course since before GCU took it over. The course was great. Aside from some bunkers lacking much sand, the course was in really good shape. The pace was great. Played as a threesome with a walking foursome ahead of us and we barely waited throughout the day. The cart girl was seen several times during the round. Would love to play again in the near future. Paid $90 for the tee time and thought it was good value compared to some courses this time of year.
Good test of golf, great layout and a fair challenge
Every hole is different but good on the eye. Sooo many bunkers so you have to be Strategic, and there are some water hazards.
I played close to noon and for a full course took 4.5 hours which felt relatively fast. Greens were quick and hold good shots.
Overall I really enjoyed the course.
Fab
Great track, greens were quick.
Bunkers a bit firm so be aware.
Challenging course.
Great course!
One of my favorites. Challenging but fair. Greens are awesome. Well worth the money!
Nice Time
Service staff was top-notch, very inviting place to be. Course was in early season shape, tight lies and thin in many places. My wife and I really enjoyed our time there!
Too Expensive
We were so disappointed when we saw the course. The pictures were the opposite of what we found. We played Arizona Grand and Legacy Golf resort that were less expensive, courses were beautiful and green and more of a challenge.
We were very disappointed.
Value
The course provided a challenging but fair round. The course was in good condition. I will play it again.
Very nice course and facility
This is a difficult layout which can play long and has many dig leg holes, a lot if bunkers and well placed trees. The course is flat and in great condition after over seed. The greens were hard and fast but putted true. Pace of play was 4.5 hours so a bit sllow.
Grand canyon
Delay in starting. Very slow pace of play. Cart path only. Course in reasonable condition. Green speed moderate
This course is an easy walk
The course is in excellent condition after reseeding. The only issues were the bunkers. They needed lots of work.
Had a Great Day on the Course!
Even though it was cart path only, it was one of my most pleasurable rounds in quite a while! In particular, everyone who we encountered from the club drop to the restaurant was absolutely terrific!
I’ll be back for sure!
Round in October 2024
I want to caveat this review by let it be known that I played the course on the day before it shut down for over seeding. The fairways had been mowed down but the rough and the greens were still in playing shape. The course was somewhat full so the pace of play was slow. We were showing that we were behind the expected playing time by 10 to 15 minutes on the back nine. The ranger checked on us multiple times and apologized for the slow play so I believe that they were doing what they could to keep the pace of play up. The staff and off course amenities are top notch.
