Great Value - Fun Course
Started a golf trip off with a round here and it turned out to be a great decision. We were a twosome who didn’t get paired up with anyone and we didn’t see anyone in front of us or behind us most of the day. Played in less than 4 hours but didn’t feel rushed at all. Course is challenging but playable for most. I am a 10 handicap and had fun the whole round and my friend who is just starting to really get into the game shot his best round to date. Greens are in great shape and roll amazing, we had a lot of fun on the greens. Do not underestimate the Myrtle Beach wind, this was a great course to get familiar with it. Links style course that starts and ends with some water featured holes, nice little taste of both worlds. We paid $71 and that included a complimentary lunch item and two beers at the turn. They also gave us a $10 off coupon for merch and we both ended up buying something, they have a nice selection. Clubhouse doesn’t offer a ton but it knows what it is and is efficient. You can hate on the abandoned castle theme or embrace it. Embrace it, this place is fun, knows what it’s doing and doesn’t take itself too serious.
Beautiful course
Beautiful course. Excellent conditions. Plays long and I found the final holes difficult
Good Course but overbooked
Driving into the course, we saw a tee box with a group of 8. Closer to the clubhouse, we saw the same at another hole. Not sure if there was a large group outing or what but wound up only 20 minutes delayed getting out. Once on the course, play was quite slow on the front but improved a good bit on the back.
Course condition was great and the layout was interesting. The course was very playable as the layout was very open and the rough was relatively short, not overly punishing for a miss.
The negatives I found were:
- Restrooms - in the clubhouse (condition), and on the course (condition - only one was working, availability - none after ~hole 7)
- Staff - Person behind the counter was not having a great day and when I asked about how long we would be delayed getting out, he offered that "I didn't have to play there...". I wasn't rude, genuinely interested in delay as we had reservations after our round, he was quick to respond negatively IMO.
- Lady behind the counter who provided the lunch and drinks was super busy but was super nice.
- Starter - you guy was doing the best he could given the lack of availability of carts. Nice guy, paired us up with two others (as he should have) and sent us on our way efficiently.
Overall pleased with the course, but felt like it was overbooked (maybe expected on a Friday Morning?) and could improve the experience with some straightforward tweaks.
Beautiful
Course is absolutely stunning and in very good condition. Well maintained and I will definitely back soon!
Pace of Play
Took us bout 1:45 to play frontnine
Took about 3 hours to play back nine. YOU NEED A RANGER.
Greens were fantastic
Friendly staff and course in good shape. Greens were consistent and true.
16 and 18 are both especially hard. Long uphill par 4s surrounded by water. Played here several times and had several good rounds ruined with doubles on both of
Those holes
