Myrtle Beach National Golf Club - King's North Course
About
For years, the King's North Course at Myrtle Beach National has been the most requested and best recognized golf course on the Grand Strand. The par-3, third hole with its island green and South Carolina-shaped sandtraps has become the signature hole for Myrtle Beach. King's North features some dramatic and unique holes. The par-5 sixth hole is nicknamed "The Gambler" and features an unusual island fairway which offers golfers a risk-reward short-cut to the green for a chance at eagle. The 18th hole, nicknamed "The Bull's-eye" by Golf Magazine, is a sight to behold. More than 40 sandtraps guard either side of the fairway and the green reaches out into a lake offering, at times, a very tempting pin placement.

Fantastic layout
This course was in great shape when 4 of us played on our way to Myrtle Beach. The course had some tough holes but every course has tough holes but it depends if you play the right tees. The staff was very friendly, the pro shop was very nicely stocked. The beer prices were great.
A gem
Played this course a long time ago and I insisted that we play this course on our recent trip to Myrtle. This course is by far the best layout and conditions of the courses we played and most were in immaculate shape. We were the second group off, but the group ahead of us was very slow. We informed the ranger and after he spoke with them we cruised. The greens were fast and true and the fairways were lush. The routing is enjoyable and not too challenging. The wind was rough today, but a major stormed passed the night before so I’ll take that over a rainy round. If I had to choose something to fix I wish they spice up the club house and bathrooms. Other than that this place is perfect
Nice course in great condition - pace of play a problem
Third time on this course. $80 on course web site seemed very fair for this time of year. A very enjoyable course in great condition. Tees, fairways, and greens were super. Rough is just starting to come in, but it's very playable. Everyone I encountered was friendly and polite.
Only negative is the 5-hour duration of the round. Never saw a marshal/ranger. Foursome two groups ahead of us had almost two full holes open in front of them. King's North is a fairly compact layout - there's some trouble, but nothing that should make a 5-hour round the norm. It's easy to fill the tee sheet this time of year - maybe they don't need to care.
Great Course
1st time playing here and I will say it is well worth every penny. Course is in perfect condition right now from tee to green and that’s saying something considering how wet it’s been down here lately.
Loved the layout but...
This will be a recurring theme for our week in Myrtle, everything could have been so much better if the courses, knowing that their course(s) are not in the best shape because of overseeding and wet conditions (combo of rain and them trying to get the seed to take) , would just be upfront and also offer a discount for a less than ideal product. I really liked the layout, it was fun and challenging, but anytime a course is challenging you don't need mud on the ball every shot, no roll, slow greens , and furry fairways/tees. Although Myrtle Beach National was probably in the best condition of all the Myrtle Beach course we played, it still wasn't very good and I think the staff there would admit that, just not ready to do anything about it. Probably won't go back for that very reason...
Kings North - usually always a good bet
My Day 4 (final) course for the 2018 Myrtle Beach World Amateur.
Great course. Seems to always be in good condition. Fun, challenging layout. Pretty near perfect shape. Greens nice and rolled true. Bunkers in good shape as was rest of course. Course has some very good holes. This is an inland course so no noted for its views. But a solid golf course.
Friendly staff.
Great Course
MBN - King's North is a must play in MB. No houses nearby...just an interesting course. Would definitely play this again sometime.
Worth playing once or twice
Great layout. Makes you use all your clubs. Must be able to draw and fade your longer clubs but the short irons and wedges are straight in.
Greens a little smaller, typical of an Arnold Palmer design...target golf. Excellent course conditions. Good clubhouse and friendly staff. When you pull up you'll think "what's the fuss about this place" because it doesn't look like much. However the course itself is really good.
Challenging from the normal tee boxes you play but if you move up a box, club down off the tee you wont have to work as hard and may have a more enjoyable round.
Fun Course - Excellent Conditions
Booked online through course web site - $72 after 1:00 pm felt like a very fair price for this course and this time of year.
Arived about 50 minutes before tee time. Bag drop team friendly and helpful. Easy checkin (prepaid). $4 for range token. Range conditions good, but a clock would be a welcome addition. Putting green near #1 tee was true to course conditions.
Course in excellent condition throughout - fairways were a just a wee bit shaggy. Greens putted true, but judging the break was often a challenge. Water in play on almost every hole. Nice layout, but it's a test from the gold tees - 7 of the 10 4-pars are near or over 400 yards, all 5 on the back nine.
I'd go back in a heartbeat.
What a Pleasure
Attention to detail was present at every turn. The entire staff should be rewarded for their effort! The layout make you think and use every club in your bag.
King of Myrtle Beach
The layout and character of MBN Kings North was exceptional and challenging. Course conditions were immaculate and well worth the time to play it. I would highly recommend for any serious golfer looking to play in Myrtle Beach!
Very Disappointed
My disappointment comes from the layout of the course. The fairways were beyond wet and there was no rain for weeks. It's off our must play list
Awful
This is usually one of my favorites.
Greens are torn up. Many spots in the fairways were mud. Bunkers weren't properly maintained. And they're still charging full price. A major disappointment and you've lost a customer.
Great track, great condition
I played King's North as a single with a late afternoon tee time. I know it is July, but I ran into one foursome and they quickly let me play thru.
The course was in great shape. The greens rolled true and fairly fast.
It has been a while since I played here, but it still is one of the best on the Strand.
Must play
Have had problems with pace of play here before, but we got through in 4 hours. Great collection of holes. Course was in great condition. Have played here the last six years and will again.
Kings North
The course was in excellent shape. The greens were running true and were soft.We played at 10am and were done in under 4 hrs. Great track will play it again!
Great course : poorly managed
I usually dont mind having to wait a bit when golfing, it just is what it is.. we had the first teetime of the day. We then had to wait 10 minutes after our scheduled teetime to start.. Not sure why.. then got sent off the back 9 first. Naturally when we hit the turn and got to one there was a 4 some on the green and a 4 some on the fairway so we got to wait the rest of the round on them.
When we finished the round I parked the cart right where I picked it up from, as I'm getting out a teenage kid yelled from 30 yards away to "bring the cart over here"
Fun, challenging, and scenic course. But the staff and management need to adjust their focus.
Awful experience
Excellent course...but that's about it!
1)they jam as many people in as they can. We were 8 carts deep waiting to tee off.
2) the cart we received was loaded with trash
3) i waited 30 minutes inside to buy beer and when it finally came to me I was told they had no more cold miller light.
4) we saw the cart girl ONCE
5) no GPS on carts
6)when you do get beer you get it in a plastic bag with ice...which melts in like 2 seconds and everything gets wet.
7) no one there to unload our carts at the end of the round
8) the starter was calling people over to him bc he was too lazy to get his butt out of his cart.
Very unfortunate bc it is a beautiful course, but what a horrible experience! Complete mess when it comes to hospitality!
A Truly Challenging Golf Test
King's North was our second 18 on what became a very windy day. Frankly, the course kicked our butts. The high winds played a major role in the difficulty, but if there wasn't trouble to find on every hole, the wind wouldn't have affected our scores so significantly. If you classify yourself as a decent player or better, you should definitely include King's North on your itinerary. It is one of the most unique courses you will play in Myrtle or anywhere really. Nearly every hole would qualify as a signature hole at many courses. Complimenting the superior layout was excellent greens and overall great conditioning. Overall, King's North comes with a high price tag, but is worth the money.
Bush league!
The course itself was fine IMO nothing special the Gambler hole is kind of neat, but not really too tough to hit the "island fairway". Conditions were good I can't really add much that hasn't already been said about the layout.
Huge Pet Peeve that they charge for range balls! Really? This is supposed to be a higher end course and they have the nerve to charge. It's not the money, it's the principal. Pace of play was very slow, we were a twosome who ended up playing behind the twosome we were supposed to have been paired with as they had tee'd off early and they had zero interest in pairing up with us..Just ignorant IMO and the marshall should have made us pair up..but anyway there is no way it should take over 5 hours to play even if it was CPO (I honestly can't remember.
This one is off the replay list we will go back to Tidewater and TPC...
