Finishing up on Man O War Photo submitted by mdPzD0qY6289lECn8Hqg on 12/18/2019
Man o War is Beautiful!
This was the sixth course we golfed and what a surprise it was .. beautiful fairways the greens were perfect especially the island green ... play was fast because they didn’t pack the course.. the management was great!! Will definitely go again and again
Aces!!
This course was everything you want. It was fun, challenging, and visually stunning. The layout was so cool and was totally unexpected. The conditions were perfect and the staff was friendly. Couldn’t find a negative and this is coming from someone who’s played for over two decades. Play this course!!
Unfriendly staff
The course has relatively good conditions and the greens are usually running well. However, the staff is not user-friendly to junior golf. Most courses allow juniors to play free. This course does not. They do not offer any discounts to people that work in the golf business other than PGA staff.
The Perfect Golf Getaway
Played with some of my buddies, there was lots of water but lots of fairway too. Challenging but still fun. A great test. We will be back.
Best Course in the Area
Top course conditions in the area! Just beautiful and more than worth the rate. Tee boxes fantastic, fairways absolutely fantastic and groomed well. Greens smooth and fast. The staff were great and the pace was perfect with no waiting.
Everyone should play here
This one was toward the end of my Myrtle Beach trip, and I played a number of really good courses. This might have been the most fun (even more so than TPC, World Tour, Pawley's Plantation, and King's North--which were all great as well). Great layout!!! Conditions good for the season; all the rough was green, where other courses are dormant. Fun for an advanced player, but I don't think someone with up to a 22-25 handicap should absolutely avoid it. It sounds scary, but there's a decent enough amount of room to hit your ball. It wasn't tight. There are some holes where you might lose a ball in the water, but the golf holes are interesting and the water features are beautiful.
Don't miss this golf course.
I did give 5-stars for value, but the price jumped up since I played a couple of days ago. And the rates don't seem to drop at all in the afternoon, which I think is unfortunate. They did give us a lunch + 2 drinks ticket, which was a nice surprise. But I like golf values, and I wish their rates were a little more dynamic like most other golf courses are these days.
The lady staffing lunch in the clubhouse was incredibly friendly. Any other staff we encountered were friendly and hospitable enough. The outbuildings are a little dumpy; the bathroom near (but not part of the clubhouse) needs to be razed and rebuilt--it was pretty gross.
Very wet
Played this course during our family vacation end of July. Area had rain storms hit the area before we got there and almost everyday while we were there. We decided to play here because we heard the greens were good and they were solid. Me(1hdcp) and my buddy(12) tookour two teenage boys. Many of the fairways had standing water and we had cartpath only. Lots of ponds hazards on the course but the fairways are wide and water only comes into play on a few holes unless you really go wayward. Nothing fancy about the course but it was a solid play and we will be back.
just ok
The greens were in great condition because they were Bentgrass and survived the winter better than those with Bermuda. The layout is decent. Bunkers are not good. Very slow pace of play. The restaurant did not look like some place we wanted to eat. Staff was ok. Not sure I would go back.
Best Condition
This is a favorite course. It has some longer than needed par 4's and 5's, and there is abundent water, but the design and opennes,s,even with tall pines ,is a good visual. The Greens in Myrtle Beach this year are bad at a lot of noteable courses because of late frosts. Here they were worked early and responded well. The course is in great shape.
Must play for Myrtle Beach
We did some online research and from the looks of the layout, we were expecting to be overwhelmed by the water hazards throughout the course. We were pleasantly suprised that was not the case, although water did come into play on various holes.
The course is great and fair. All of my group were ages 59 - 62, so we played the senior tees. We found the distances and degree of difficulty to be just right. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in great shape. Love this course! The only drawback is the lunch offerings that came with the package we purchased. A small deli sandwich or two hot dogs were part of the package, but to upgrade to a hamburger or bbq sandwich were an additional $4. Not the best deal for a lunch included in the price. Otherwise, staff was very friendly (especially the starter) and the course is a must for Myrtle Beach travelers.
Water
Water everywhere. If you hit accurate shots though the water should not be a problem. Most fairways are wide enough to allow a slightly errant shot. Sand traps were nicely kept. Fairways and tee boxes were great Greens were in excellent shape. Cart lady was around often enough and staff were real friendly.
Bent greens!!
This course has a lot of water but most the time it does not come into play. It is pretty wide open and for the most part the greens are the highlight. The Pro shop and restaurant are average and it appears they put the most money into the golf course which is good.
Mystical golfs gems
Played here & other 2 coarses ( Witch & Wuzard)
Unbelievable conditions ... greens perfect bent grass like home at M-0-W & Wizard , Witch Bermuda but rolled perfect . Went out first , so no comment on pace . At $118 for all 3 is a great deal .
The Witch has 1 bad whole , par 3 , but you forget about it by next 2 holes .... beautiful holes , bugs at Witch are taxing to say the least. Just stay in the sun
I had bug spray & dryer sheets ....Played with a gentleman named Larry ( sarcasm at its best ....says to me " why dryer sheets , cause bug spray doesn't work , right ???? " good PT
Will always go back & play these 3
One more add ... FREE 2 beers & a dog not as either
fun
played Caledonia and World tour golf and this was as fun or better than either of those. conditions were great and the layout is really fun. bring a shovel because there are a couple of bunkers.
Best Customer Service in MB!
I've been going to Myrtle Beach for 20+ years and if there's a group of courses that makes golfers feel more welcome than the Mystical Golf trio (The Wizard, The Witch and Man O' War) I've yet to see it. What a place!
Love Playing Man-O-War - Great Greens!
Man-O-War's bent grass greens might well be the best in Myrtle Beach. They roll firm and true. We play the three Mystical Golf courses every spring. It's the best deal in Myrtle Beach!
greens were punched
Course is decent, I would have liked to know that the greens were aerated. Lots of water, plenty of sand. I would return when the greens heal.
great, fun course for all levels
after 20 plus years in MB, this is my favorite course. always in great shape and a good mix of interesting holes. as a 10 handicap, it's challenging enough and i can post a score if I am ball striking well. also fun for high handicappers like my father-in-law. hard to find courses in MB where all handicap levels have fun at the same time and this is one of the few.
Just Good
Because it has water in so many holes, the pace of play can come to a crawl- Over all the staff was friendly enough but not great. The course is in good condition and the greens although on the slow side they do run true . The ninth hole is the signature hole and it is very memorable , unfortunately the rest of the course seemed just ok. The course is very open and you can use your driver plenty, but on days with winds over 10 mph it does play long. For the winter price of 40-50 dollars it was a good deal as it also included lunch and two beers.
