About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

great course in troon tradition
Great course, beautiful greens, well groomed fairways, challenging but player friendly.
Scenery would be great if it weren't for light posts and high-tension hydro lines criss-crossing the course.

This course has everything. Green grass everywhere....firm greens that rolled nicely...beautiful dessert views.... and a very friendly staff...and also a great location in the valley. I will play here again
Real nice course, not to difficult but some nice holes.
Would like to see brighter clearer markers at tee boxes, that being my only suggestion. Have played it several times now and will be back!
course is a nice desert course, fast greens, hard for me to read
great value. I played with some guests staying at the resort. They each paid $125 to my $75

Great course, great service
Whirlwind is one of those courses that you MUST play if you're in the Phoenix-Scottsdale area. Great practice facility, course in great condition and excellent service. They provide with a yardage book that is very helpful. I played at Cattail course. Greens are receptive, fast but not extremely crazy. Definitely to come back and try Devil's Claw next time!!

Loved Cattail - want to play Devil's Claw
Cattail was a great desert layout, staff was very friendly and helpful. I heard from a playing partner that Devil's Claw was more challenging so I can't wait to play Devil's Claw. No homes on the course, just desert golf with well maintained fairway, rough, greens and tee boxes. I would recommend playing Cattail.
Course was immaculate and greens rolled true.

Course was nice - disappointed with no GPS on the carts after playing Southern Dunes - another Troon course.
Will play more rounds at Southern Dunes.

Whirlwind.....WINNING!!
36 holes of wonderful, challenging golf, great staff both on and off the course, good food and drinks, and the scenery in the distance on almost every hole makes the golfing experience that much better. Practice facilities are plentiful. This place is more than a resort golf experience because they keep things moving and always seem to run on-time; it's got the private/membership thing down without being a private/membership club. If you are looking for 36 holes of great golf in a single or two day window, you have to play Whirlwind Golf Club.

very good course and everyone is professional pretty good value for the $.Unfortunately the Golfnow survey format does not allow for a mediocre rating as it relates to course condition and the staff
Course was well worth the money
Nice track. Well mantained. Fun track to play. Fairways are nice size. Greens were fast and smooth. This was the Cats Claw course.............

Great conditions, a little expensive if you don't have the Troon card
Tee boxes, fariways and greens were in great condition. Staff is very friendly. Frost delay made getting 18 holes in impossible but they offered a free dozen golf balls since we couldn't finish
