Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.

Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.

Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

This is a great resort both courses are very good

Everything was great the day we played. We played the Cattail first and then we decided to play Devils Claw both great courses.
The only complaint that I have is price, for a resident very hard to enjoy these great courses in the season would really like to be able to play when the course is in winter season. 80 dollars when it is still 100 plus degrees, then 35 for replay. Why is there not a residents rate in Arizona or at least the valley, pretty much have to put clubs away for winter. Hawaii has a local rate that allows residents to play at greatly discounted rates ex. I played Turtle Bay with resident and only had to pay 30 when the visitor rate was 150. Great deal why is there not something like this in Arizona, Would really like to be able to afford golf when courses are in pristine shape

Great Staff - Great Course

Cattails, as usual, was in great shape. The greens were true and the ball rolled nicely on them. The fairways were immaculate and the bunkers had REAL sand in them. I play this course about three times a year and look forward to the opportunities I have to get out there. Keep up the good work!!!

One of my favorite courses in the Valley.

The courses are always in great shape. It is well managed with friendly staff and rangers. Both Cat Tail and Devil's Claw are wide open but don't let that fool you. It is by no means an easy track. If you don't mind a little heat, the summer prices are a great value.

Very playable if you choose the correct tees to play from.

Everything was great except the greens. They were very "spongy" (excessive watering) and extremely slow. They looked good, they just didn't roll well. We played the "Cattail" course and overall it is a very nice layout. The practice area is fabulous and everything at the course is very well manicured.

Great Course

I have played both courses and this time it was the Cattail course with my wife. At times it was a little tough for her because of the rough, however I found it challenging but fun and the staff took good care of us. The restaurant was execellent with wonderful food and plenty for the money.

Must play course!

I would highly encourage anyone to play either course at whirlwind. My personal favorite is devil's claw. This is a very well maintained golf community. Might to pricey in the winter but well worth your money any other time.

enjoyed the track (Cattail)

Played the 6300 yard tees (old guys) enjoyed the fairness of the fairways, yet challenged by location of where to try & place ball.
Our group is in the 12-20 handicap range.

Beautiful, somewhat challanging, both are desert courses no home surrounding the courses.

Beautiful desert courses as there are two, moderatly challenging, there is water, it is somewhat wide in the fairways. I did need to watch and place my shots as there are a lot of left and right dog legs and obviously I had to watch for bunkers which are placed in the curves of those dog legs. Great course, well maintained. Though it is in the valley early morning and later afternoon tee times give you dawn and dusk views that are unbelievable. Enjoy your game and the lack of city noises.
