Walked the Blacks (1239) in 1H, 20M playing as a single. The weather was clear, windy and in the mid 80's.

Easy & fun course to walk. No motorized carts but a nice walking cart is included as part of your fee. No GPS, but they do have range finders on the tees. The Pro Shop is in a trailer but is well stocked and very functional. Very nice chipping and pitching green in addition to the large practice putting green that is usually very reflective of the greens on the course. No driving range, they have nets for you to warm up in.

Tremendous views plus a really good course layout make this a very fun par 3 course. However, while not bad, the course is not in as good of condition as usual here. Most holes have elevation changes and the prevailing ocean wind always swirls here.

The tees had good coverage, were level and semi lush but had lots of divot damage. Looks like they have a few tees opened farther back than where the markers are, so they may be looking to stretch out a few holes?

The fairways and rough do not come into play all that much on a par 3 course, but both were in good shape. The rough is thick around the sand traps, other than the native areas and the deep faced traps, that is the main real punitive area to avoid.

The sand traps were well maintained with thick sand that I find to be inconsistent. They are tough to get balls up/down with some of the huge lips and deep rough close to the traps here.

The greens are huge for a short par 3 course, so expect some long lag putts. They putted medium fast and were mostly smooth. More ball marks than average which may be why they were still receptive to nice high approach shots even though they were firm.

The Customer Service from everyone encountered was excellent as usual here. Recommended = Yes. You should play here at least once for the views and nice layout.

Course Maintenance

They were re-sodding the 3rd, 6th and 9th hole tee boxes which was irritating. The greens were pretty slow and people just don't repair their ball marks. I'm glad I didn't pay the regular course rate or I would have been very disappointed. One a good note, they have the best portapotties I've ever seen.

an experience

My wife and I played this course for the first time on Saturday morning 6/25/16, as part of our anniversary. The staff was most helpful and the course was in very good shape with beautiful ocean views on every hole. Although it is a par 3 course, the sloped greens and the foothill/ocean effect on putts increased the level of difficulty without being too punitive. Scoring a pair of birdies on the final hole was a nice way to end an enjoyable golf outing.

Golf: Resort Style

Such a great experience. KIETH and the club house personnel were very welcoming and attentive. My wife and I scheduled only a morning of golf which truly felt like a weekend get away. I think I will book a golf/spa package next time; it was really difficult leaving such a warm and inviting place.

A "must play" par 3 course...

Walked the Blacks (1239) using Forelinx in 1.5H, matched up with Barry & Jordan. The weather was clear & breezy and in the 70's. The tremendous views coupled with good course conditions make this a very fun par 3 course. Most holes have elevation changes and the prevailing ocean wind always seems to swirl here.

The tees are lush with good coverage. Most divots had been properly repaired.

The fairways and rough are both in very good shape. The rough is thick around the sand traps, other than the native areas, that is the only real punitive area to avoid.

The traps were well maintained with thick sand that I find to be tough to play out of with some of the huge lips on traps here. there is also a decent amount of small rocks in them.

The greens are large for a course this length. They putt putted medium fast and were mostly smooth. Firm but still receptive to well struck iron shots. Average amount of ball marks considering that shorter irons are being hit into green after green.

The Customer Service from everyone encountered was excellent, especially the starter Alex. No GPS, but they do have range finders on the tees.Easy & fun course to walk. No motorized carts but a nice walking cart is included as part of your fee. The Clubhouse/Pro Shop is in a trailer but is well stocked and very functional.

Very nice chipping and pitching green in addition to the large practice putting green that is usually very reflective of the greens on the course. No driving range, they have nets for you to warm up in. Recommended = Definitely, even if you are not "in to" par 3 courses, you should play here at least once.

Walked the Blacks (1239) using Forelinx. The weather was 60ish, clear & breezy. Played as a 3some with Ron & Kyle in 1H, 20M.

The tees were winter thin with many divots. A couple are mowed up, with the back area roped off and almost ready to be played on again. There are many repaired divots, but on a course where most players are using irons on every hole, it's tough to keep them all maintained.

The fairways and rough do not really come into play much since this is a par 3 course, but they were both winter thin with few divots.

The traps were nicely maintained with very thick sand that was tough to play out of. Deep, thick rough surrounds most traps.

The greens complexes are large for a course this length and not surprisingly for a shorter course, there were many ball marks on the greens. The greens putted medium fast and are mostly smooth. Firm but still receptive to well struck iron shots.

Walked the Blacks (1239) using Forelinx. The weather was clear & windy in the high 50's. Played as a 5some with Blaine, Charles, Dave & Andrew is 1H, 50M on a busy holiday weekend.

The tees were average to below average. Winter thin with many divots freshly repaired. However, there are so many divots on a course where most players are using irons on every hole, tough to keep them all maintained.

The fairways and rough do not really come into play much since this is a par 3 course, but they were both winter thin with few divots.

The traps were nicely maintained with very thick sand that was tough to play out of. 50/50 chance you will get a fried egg. There are more traps that you would expect on a short, 9 hole par 3 course, which adds visual stimulation, difficulty & character to this layout. Additionally, these are not small traps either, most are huge. You better hope you get IN the trap, because the deepest rough on the course surrounds most traps.

The greens are mostly smooth, putted medium fast, firm but still receptive to well struck iron shots. The greens complexes are large for a course this length and not surprisingly for a shorter course, there were many ball marks on the greens. Not many straight putts on these greens either.

Most holes have elevation changes and the prevailing ocean wind make this course more challenging than the yardage would initially indicate. The holes range from 104 to 173 yards from the back tees. I have used everything from a 5 iron to a Sand Wedge off the tee, and that selection has changed up to 2 clubs on different visits here because of the ocean breeze. Tremendous views & excellent course conditions make this a very fun par 3 course.

Walked the Blacks (1239) using the Forelinx membership. Averaged a little over 1H per 9, so the POP was excellent. The holes range from 104 to 173 yards from the back tees. Most holes have elevation changes and the prevailing ocean wind make this course more challenging that the yardage would initially indicate. The tees were very good, fairly lush with almost all divots freshly repaired. It's almost a shame the fairways and rough do not really come into play much since this is a par 3 course, because they were both very lush. The sand traps were very nicely maintained with nice quality sand. The greens were very good overall. Smooth, firm, putted medium fast and held approach shots on a dime. They also have a decent amount of slope, not many straight putts on these greens. No driving range, they have nets for you to warm up in. They do have a very nice chipping and pitching green in addition to the large practice putting green that was very reflective of the greens on the course. The Clubhouse/Pro Shop is in a trailer but well stocked and very functional. The Customer Service from Dan in the Pro Shop to the starter Alex was superb. Chatted with the Greens crew, who was out in force resodding & repairing damage from a hydraulic leak on the 5th green. With the views and condition of the course, this is definitely the best par 3 course I have ever played. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, Recommended = Definitely.

Walked the Blacks (1239) using Forelinx. The weather was clear, chilly and windy. Played as a single, went around more than once and averaged around 1H per 9, so POP was great.

The tees were average to below average. Fairly lush with many divots freshly repaired, but there so many divots on a course where most players are using irons on every hole.

The fairways and rough do not really come into play much since this is a par 3 course, but they were both very lush with a few areas uprooted by native animals.

There are more traps that you would expect on a fairly short, 9 hole par 3 course, which adds visual stimulation, difficulty & character to the course. And these are not small traps either, most are huge. Nicely maintained with nice quality light colored sand.

The greens are mostly smooth, putted medium fast, firm but still receptive to well struck iron shots. Very large for a course this length and not surprisingly for a shorter course, there are many ball marks on the greens. Not many straight putts on these greens either.

The Clubhouse/Pro Shop is in a trailer but well stocked and very functional. The Customer Service from everyone encountered was excellent. This is a walk only course, they do not have powered carts. A nice walking cart is included as part of your green fee.

Terranea has a very nice chipping and pitching green in addition to the large practice putting green that has been very reflective of the greens on the course. Walked the Blacks (1239) using the Forelinx subscription. The weather was partly cloudy and muggy. Played with Lou & Ann, thanks for a fun round! POP was slow for this course, we were playing behind 3 beginners and waiting on every tee until they quit after 6 holes.

The parts of the course that matter (greens, tees & traps) were good, but not as good as they were a few weeks ago when I played here.

The tees were just Okay, fairly lush with most divots freshly repaired, but there sure are alot of them even for a par 3 course.

The fairways and rough do not really come into play much since this is a par 3 course, but they were both very lush. There were areas torn up according to the starter by Raccoons that come out at night and dig things up.

The sand traps were nicely maintained with nice quality sand. More traps that you would expect on a fairly short, 9 hole par 3 course. However, 1st thing in the morning, talk about THICK to try and hit out of!

The greens are very large for a course this length. Most were mostly smooth and putted medium fast. Firm but still receptive to well struck iron shots. Many more ball marks than I remember on my last visit here. Not many straight putts on these greens. The damage from a hydraulic leak on the 5th green has been repaired and is almost healed.

Walked the Blacks (1239) using the remaining tee times on my Forelinx membership. The weather was beautiful, clear, ranging from almost still, to breezy to windy at times. Played 18 holes in 2H, 15m walking in the morning, so the POP was excellent.

I used a different club on 3 of the 9 holes the 2nd time through because of the changing conditions. Most holes have elevation changes and the prevailing ocean wind make this course more challenging that the yardage would initially indicate. The holes range from 104 to 173 yards from the back tees. I used everything from a 6 iron to a Sand Wedge off the tee.

The tees were generally good, fairly lush with most divots freshly repaired.

A great place to play!

Absolutely loved this course. I felt $8.00 dollars to rent a pull cart was outrageous and would suggest bringing a lightweight bag. No point in playing anything but the back tees for anyone who has swung a club before. The one thing it lacks is the ability to warm up into, at least a net. That way your not warming up on the first couple of holes. Greens are predictable, well cared for. I'd definitely play here again. Played with my son, who said afterwards that "it's the most fun day, we ever had on a golf course" To me, that's priceless!

Fun course...slower than it should be

This a fun little par 3 that everyone should play if they have the chance. Constant ocean views, very nice staff and some wicked greens. Unfortunately, we got stuck behind a "date" and boy did it take a long time to play a short course. I'm all for enjoying the view, but wow, maybe you want to let some people pass while during the courtship! I have to imagine most days are probably like this given how busy it was by the time we left.

Again, great course, just wish it wasn't quite so slow relative to the course setup.
