Good Old Whickham
A great course that makes you think every shot rather than simply walking up and hitting it. A challenge for both high and low handicappers. Friendly staff and in a brilliant condition despite a week of wet weather prior.
Whickham 27/9/2021
Booked fourball today at Whickham who had no warnings on GolfNow site about greens work being undertaken this week, unlike other courses in the area which we obviously avoided. We specifically chose this course for that very reason. We arrived to see a couple of temporary greens in view so asked how many were in place to be told “ maybe one or two, possibly a few more” at the pro shop, and at the bar where we had to book in, that “the green keepers are working on a couple of greens today” . They advised Golf now had been told about it but apparently it was their error that a warning was not on screen. It was too late to go elsewhere with poor weather forecast later in the day so we decided to go ahead and play. Extremely disappointed to find about 10 temporary greens which totally spoilt our game. Whilst the £21 green fee was not ridiculously expensive, all four of us were extremely disappointed with what happened and felt hard done by. Surely there must have been some communication from their greenkeepers to their staff and quite honestly it felt like we had been conned? Very disappointed, unlikely to return
Cracking course
Great condition as always. Lovely course I’d recommend to anyone.
May Bank Holiday round
What a great knock, course in beautiful condition great fairways and greens although not very quick, tree lined fairways and dog legs keep you thinking and having to plot your way round . Pace of play was good 3 and half hours for a 3 ball will definitely play again
Great course...rain spoilt it
Had to walk off after 9 holes due to rain and wind. Sinbad it broke my umbrella.
I was really enjoying the course and would definitely like to return.
Had you be able to cancel your booking and get a refund I would have done after realising how bad the weather was going to be.
Course was in pretty good condition but two holes were off due to work being done which would of been nice to know before we booked and paid for the round
14 and 15 closed, winter tee mats £25
As a regular visitor to Whickham I was extremely disappointed by standard of the course today. Totally understand the adverse weather lately but I expected more from a course which was my favourite in the region.
The tee mats were used on almost every hole.
Yellow tee markers in front of the reds on some holes.
Really disappointing and the worst thing is charging a premium for 15.5 holes rather than 18. 14 and 15 are the best 2 holes on the course and both are closed. 16 is a 200 yard straight par 3 with a fairway tee box which means the ball is above your feet on address.
The course was £15 at times last summer in peak season, it’s now £25 and it’s not 18 holes of golf. No mention at all on golf now that some holes were closed.
Good day all round!
First time at this course - and the first since lockdown ended - so the clubhouse was still closed - understandably.
Nevertheless we scored for good weather and despite the recent rain the course was in excellent condition - albeit (again understandably) with some temp greens.
Very challenging course at times and very hilly - but this added to the enjoyment with decisions to be made on almost every hole to get the best of the conditions and lies.
Thoroughly enjoyed this course and will certainly be going back.
Excellent morning
Course was immaculate today, really enjoyed playing. Lots if character. I will be back soon
The course was in very good condition
First time on this course, the fairways and greens were fantastic. The views from this golf course are amazing.
Very nice course
Very nice but tough course, made even harder by the weather, I would like to go back on a better day to appreciate it more. Staff and members were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
