Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course

About
The Navy Golf Course Seal Beach is a 27-hole facility that includes the championship Destroyer Course and the nine-hole executive Cruiser Course. The 6,780-yard Destroyer Course presents a challenge even for low handicappers with a slew of hazards coming into play throughout. The small greens have challenging slopes ranging from subtle breaks to dramatic drop-offs. To make them even tougher, you'll find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the edges. The tricky doglegs, which are mostly par 4s, will force you to think carefully about your club selection, and to top it all off, water makes an appearance on almost every hole. It's a long golf course that feels even longer due to the rolling terrain, but it is more forgiving than it seems with long, wide fairways that won't penalize you for being slightly errant.

Want an open and forgiving yet challenging course?
First time. Played blues (I’m a 10 handicap). Course was challenging in that you can miss the fairways and still play your ball but you will be challenged by mature trees. Take it over the tree but can you carry the distance or try to hit a stinger and go low? Fairways great shape, greens a little slow but amazing shape and rolled true. No trick greens. You make a good putt, you will be rewarded. Played behind 4 Asian fellas who really liked to line up putts (talking 2 minutes a putt). But only thing negative. Surprise snack bar around hole 13 is a welcome reward. Cannot wait to play again!
Great course
Great shape greens and fairways excellent .. best course around !!

Course is one of my favorites love the layout
Very open and forgiving if your hitting it well I would have to say it’s a bit overpriced but I love it
POP was 5+ on a Thursday afternoon
Started off ok just after 1. It was windy. Almost 2 clubs into it for most of the day. Only slightly calmed down later in the afternoon.
It was moving and then it came to a crawl around the 9th hole. Waited on every hole after that. Barely finished at 5+ hours.
Course was just meh. Greens were kinda slow. Started to firm up on a few holes but inconsistent. I guess they gave up maintaining a couple of the lakes as one is a total dry waste area now and the other couple barely had any water in them.
For the extra price over the County type courses it should be in better shape.
Tee boxes all need levelling. They are all lumpy and patchy. Not a flat one on the whole course. It’s supposed to be better than Muni but it’s barely a level above it.
I guess it’s the Navy but they don’t care what happens to stuff on land / ground LOL
Fun track
I’ve played here a dozen times but most recently twice in the past 3 months.
Today on 5/8 the course was in pretty good shape . There’s some occasional tee boxes that need some work but overall the teeing areas were fine.
The bunkers were pretty darn good where some had a a little more sand than they needed to but overall better than no sand at all.
The greens were in great health but they were awfully slow… I’d assume they’re running around 8-9 on the stimp. I’m not sure if they’re letting them grow a bit more after aeration but this course would be 5/5 if they could get the greens to at least 10-11 on the stimp and make it much more enjoyable when you feel like you can trust the roll .
Pace of play was fantastic playing in 4 hours on a Thursday at 10 am.
Overall I like this course in the variation of holes making it a pretty good test of golf just wish the greens were smoother and quicker !
Excellent staff,
Great course,
Good pace of play.
Great overall condition
Greens in best condition and rolling true…Perfect spring weather.
Great time playing this coarse
Coarse is in good shape. The wait was minimal and the staff was very helpful.
Amazing course
It is good to be back playing at the Destroyer course.
Greens are meticulous.
Staffs are professional and courteous.
Restaurant at the club house is a top notch.
Looking forward to the next round.
Cancelled
Yesterday we got there on time but were told that the t time was cancelled, the staff was very nice and friendly but we couldn’t find GolfNow contact information to make a call to clear the issue, really don’t understand why GolfNow hides the contact information, what they are afraid of?! Until today I can’t find the contact information, Nobody contacted me,it’s really waste of time and money!
