What are some of the best public golf courses and top hidden gems in the Great Britain and Ireland?
To find our selections, we compile our annual Golfers' Choice lists by analyzing the ratings and reviews submitted by members of our community - golfers like you - throughout the previous year. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages. Courses must offer public access and have received at least two reviews in 2024 to be eligible for this year's list.

Roscrea
Green fee: $27-$38
What they're saying: "This is my local golf course. I’m 33 and am new to golf in the last 12 months. I play this course at least once per week and it’s a lovely course and very well maintained. The fairways and greens are always in great condition once there isn’t a huge shower of rain the night before. It’s in boggy land so it gets very soft in the bad weather but the boggy land makes it a lovely natural course with really nice fairways. Any staff I’ve met here have been really nice. Everyone I’ve played with or behind are nice and always let you play through without issues. I’ve played other courses where people are not as friendly and where the pace of play is really bad. Roscrea is all positive." - landym -
Lurgan
Green fee: $36-$45
What they're saying: "I think this is the best parkland course I've played in a very long time. The course was in excellent condition, with the greens in particular, immaculate. Incredible value at £25 on golf now, and still fantastic value at the full £30. The staff and members were also very welcoming and friendly. Superb golf course." - beachburner5 -
Maxstoke Park Golf Club
Green fee: $32-$52
What they're saying: "Played here for the first time and was blown away by the condition of the course. Greens were smooth, quick and pitch mark free, a really good challenge. Bunkers were well maintained with a good level of sand, although I only landed in two. The course is set in beautiful grounds, with some challenging holes over water, and two par 5’s. I did play it mid-week during the middle of the day, so the pace of play was at my leisure. I could however expect this to be different at weekends, I’m sure it draws a lot of golfer’s attention. If you are in the Midlands and looking for a great course to visit, I would highly recommend it." - DaveD70 -
