About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

We find this course to be very lady friendly. Greens have been punched several weeks ago and they were awesome. Staff very friendly. We will definitely be back. Thanks for the wonderful day!!

Everything was great here. Friendly service. Course was in excellent condition. GPS on the cart is always a highlight. Could not have asked for anything better!

Great course with caveat
I play to a 6.8 handicap currently, but have played to a +3 in years past. Have played tons of tournament golf and have seen a lot of world-class courses. This course is fun to play with loads of challenge. The fairways aren't too wide, which I enjoy... makes you think. If you spray the ball off the tee, you're going to have your hands full. I shot right at my handicap with a +7, 78. The course is well maintained which is a certain plus. The greens, however, were awful. Whether it's time of year or what, I don't know but the greens were bumpy and slow, and if you had to pitch or chip, you don't know how the ball will react... very soft and I'd say were rolling at an 8 or 9. There was plenty of drinking water on the course and it was easy to get to. Would I return? It's a choice while in HH, but I'd rather find a course with fantastic greens before coming back.

Great round
This was my first time playing this course. The fairways were excellent and the entire course is very well maintained. The greens were recently aerated and sandy so they are pretty fast. This is a very forgiving layout with many opportunities to make the greens even with errant tee shots. I will be making this a regular round since I am in Hilton Head at least twice a year.

hot day at Hilton Head National
Starter was a little grumpy, otherwise the staff was friendly. Greens were recovering from being punched and rolled a little slow and bumpy.

Pretty good
This is a great course, but I was expecting better conditions given the reviews. Greens are still healing from aeration and were sandy and slightly bumpy

Highly recommend...
The course was in excellent shape and given the greens were aerated 3 weeks ago, they are about a week away from being perfect. The staff was very friendly and we completed the round in less than 4 hours. Definitely would play again and recommend to others...

Course was undergoing maintenance; however it was still playable and didn’t affect your score much. Course is one of the top ten courses in the Bluffton area. Highly recommend it to anyone traveling through the area.

Just as good as always
Made my yearly Memorial Day visit to HHN. As always it was a great round. The layout is really fun. Room to hit your ball so you dont spend all day looking for your ball. But tough up and downs when you miss the greens. So its a good challenge. Course in good shape. Greens really smooth, if anything, the area has been really really dry and parts of the course where the irrigation didnt reach well were a little dried out. But its no doubt the best course in the HH area.

My favourite in Hilton Head.
Have played here many times and will go again before I leave. I play from the white tees and find it challenging for my game. I like everything about the course from tee to green. It is getting expensive at regular price, so I always book ahead and get the 2:30 time for an excellent price, if possible.

Great course
Played at 1320hrs as a single. Nobody in front of me so had plenty time to take pictures and enjoy the scenery. The layout is great with a variety of holes. Fairways are quite wide and tree lined. Greens were very fast to what l’m used to in Scotland.Lots of wildlife to watch. Just a great course to play. GPS system on buggies.. will be back.

Great design in fine condition - a player friendly layout that avoids “tricked-up” elements - what you see is what you get - an interesting, fair design, coupled with a happy staff. Easily the best value we played during our stay at Hilton Head.
