Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Good course, friendly staff
The greens were rolling pretty well, excellent layout and nice staff. It was tough sneaking a cooler onto our cart, so our beers got warm, but otherwise the golf experience was great.
I play Hilton Head National every year at this time. Will continue to play here every year. GREAT STAFF GREAT COURSE.
Great game of golf
Course was in excellent condition, greens very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Course was very quiet in afternoon so was round in 3 hours 15 min having joined another couple. Very interesting holes I like Gary Players design style, I hadn't played one of his courses before. Would definitely play again why pay $120 for some courses in the area when you can play here for $45.
Always great
Our group always comes to HHI. And our group always plays Hilton Head National. It is without doubt our favorite course. It is always well groomed, the greens are greasy and the fees are fair.
We love this course.
Nice course
This is a nice course. Very fair and straight forward. No tricky holes. Still a challenge. The greens are quite true and pretty fast.
Very nice layout. No houses, just good views and wildlife. I will definitely play this course again
Good track, Excellent conditions
This is the best value daily fee course in the HHI area. Layout is solid, though a couple trees take the right side away from the tips, forcing you to hit a fade/straight tee shot, not my forte. Played the ball down all day, never had a bad lie in the fairway. Greens were quick and rolled true, even though they still had some sand top dressing on them.
Staff was nice and friendly, actually gave us towels to use on course to wipe balls/clubs. Clubhouse is fine, but there are so many other places to eat and drink nearby, it's almost superfluous.
Always on my short list of places to play when I'm on island.
Forgiving and no houses!
My wife and I played three courses this week - Country Club of HH, Palmetto Dunes (jones) and National. National by far was our favorite. The Course was in great shape (Palmetto greens were aerated and very bumpy) and challenging within reason. No houses and no roads running through it made National a pleasure to play, even for high handicappers like us.
Enjoyed course. Lots of wildlife present..
Course was in very good condition.
Will play again when we return to Hilton Head.
Great greens
Course conditions were very good. Sand traps needed some work. The greens were excellent and held shots well. Pace of place was inconsistent. Several twosomes were out. Range was good. Very nice experience overall.
Best course on the island for the money
Great layout and greens were perfect! Only course that's not lined with homes/villas. Might need to shape a few shots and greens were sloped but fair. This course was cheaper than most with better conditions and layout! Only course I played twice and will definitely play it again.
Phenomenal condition!
Excellent in all aspects. came back two days later for a second round and will be my go to course in
HHI area.
Great course to play
A good course to play. Unfortunately I played in the rain. I look forward to an opportunity to replay the course in near future. Excellent off course facilities. They were carrying out some repairs on the cart path which made moving around a little challenging.
Great course
Love this course! Excellent course in great shape. Love the layout setting in the woods away from houses and neighborhoods like so many other courses. Would recommend to all players
Getting better and better
I have played this course at least 12 times...and it gets better each time. Greens are spectacular -- the rest of the course always has been. Bunkers are hard sand, but I don't mind that.
Great layout and condition. Staff was very friendly. GPS in golf cart was an added benefit.
Excellent course, well attended to!
This was the 2nd time I'd played here, 1st time playing all 18 holes.
I recommend this place highly! Great combination of challenges without being terribly demanding and not overly long.
I was playing from the blue tees (longest except for the champions tees) and still a lot of the par 4s were less than 400 yards which keeps them accessible.
Greens were very good and fast, bermuda so watch that grain(!) with holes crisply cut; good undulation without being a roller coaster. Par 3s were 120 to 165 yards. Wait till you see the 18th green!
Was a great day of golf and was able to post a 78!
Great course
The course was in excellent shape. The course was challenging but fair. Very enjoyable and fun round. Would definitely recommend it and will definitely return it. Played five courses the week I was here and this was definitely my favorite.
Great course. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent shape.
A great value.
Afternoons in August mean humidity and thunderstorms.
Lots of water out on the course. Make sure you have a towel with you as my hands were drenched with sweat.
Restaurant a bit dirty and could use a deep cleaning.
Overall fun day with my family
Great value
I played another course in Hilton head on Saturday for $80. Course was in great shape (probably better than the other), greens rolled well and had gps for easy calculation. Was a great course to play on my week long stay!
