Hilton Head National Golf Club
About
Set across 300 acres of lush Carolina Lowcountry, Hilton Head National Golf Club has earned its reputation as one of the region’s premier public courses.
A unique collaboration between golf legends Gary Player and Bobby Weed, the course offers two distinct nines that complement each other beautifully. Weed designed the front nine with larger, more dramatically contoured greens to contrast and balance Player’s strategically crafted back nine.
Among the most memorable holes is the challenging par-4 sixth — bordered along its entire right side by the course’s largest lake and protected by deep pot bunkers near the green. The back nine features several standout holes, including the long and demanding 16th, which ranks as the No. 1 handicap hole for women and No. 5 for men. And finishing strong, the par-4 eighteenth tests precision with a deep marsh running the length of the narrow fairway.
Together, these elements create a course that’s scenic, strategic, and rewarding for players of all skill levels.

Superb Course and Conditions
I have upgraded this course to a 5 Star....it is in superb condition, the greens are smooth and roll out and the course is well manicured. The only drawback is players who do not rake bunkers. The bunkers are firm -- but I like them that way. I play a number of mid-range (price) courses in this area and this is as good as any -- and better than most.
Still one of my favorites at HHI
HHN has always been one of my favorites in the HHI area, mainly due to how great a condition the course is always in. That was still the case, although the greens had not fully recovered from aeration and top dressing recently. I played as a single and was behind a threesome that was dreadfully slow and would not invite me to play through. My disappointment with the staff was the starter mentioned to me before I started that he observed them on hole 1 and didn't like their pace of play and would keep an eye on it. But, I never saw a ranger after I started. I realized as a single I could be waiting, but when I stopped in at the turn to complain this group was overly slow, they said they don't give rain checks if it isn't raining, there were others starting on the front, and according to their high tech GPS controlled golf carts, the threesome was meeting the time guidelines. I finally just skipped a hole on the back to get by these guys. BTW, watch out for the high tech golf carts. If you go where they think you shouldn't, you get a warning buzz and if you go a foot further, the cart will stop.
What can you say?
Hands down the best play in Bluffton for the public courses. Old South maybe a little closer then some people think but for me it's not close. This is always my favorite course and if you catch a deal it is more then worth the money. We had the course to ourselves besides one kid who played through and disappeared soon after. How can you beat a cart that tells you everything you need to know as far as distances and pin placements. You are wasting your money on a range finder at this course. It even gives you accurate distances of your drives and all. PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. I don't care how tempting it is, I beg that they keep this course open. Definitely recommend to get out and play it while you can because who knows what will happen with it.
Great value
This course has been in great shape every time I've played it and is beautiful. For the price I've never found a course as nice.
Challenging for first timer
Great course! Gorgeous driving range and putting greens. The layout was fun, the GPS was a great added benefit. The greens were sanded, some heavily, and I'm ok with that - but I'm looking forward to playing it once the greens have fully recovered. Lunch was good and prices were decent. I will return!
Very pleasant day of golf.
The weather was perfect which allowed us to enjoy the course more. Beautiful course. Very pleasant and accommodating staff. Will choose this course again in the future. Thank you.
Beautiful clubhouse
Got rained / stormed out after the first hole. Super accommodating staff though
Wide fairways, fun golf course
I trusted the reviews of others to book this course for our threesome and the consensus is right on: this is a super choice for golfers on holiday in Hilton Head. For a public course with a lot of play, its condition was outstanding. Wide, manicured landing areas off the tee diminish the intimidation from the pines. Fun layout with a variety of hole designs and angles. You will run through the bag as the round progresses. Greens rolled fair and true. We expected a good course and underestimated the experience by far. Outstanding staff, quick pace of play, fine round of golf. Strong recommend.
Southern Charmer
Had a really nice round on the way to Savannah GA. from Hilton Head. The course is right off the Highway and have no housing or Developments around it. The setting is really peaceful and quiet. Can't wait to play again!
Beautiful Course
One of the most beautiful courses that I have ever played. Very well laid out and very challenging.
Great Course off the Island
Played the course on the 4th of July. Staff was great to work with and course was in excellent shape.
One of the best values for golf off the HH Island. Would play this course overtime I am in the area.
Beautiful course
We had a fantastic day. Hardly any people. Beautiful course. Weather gorgeous. Nice layout. Some sleeping aligators. Very friendly staff. We'll be back next year.
The course was very enjoyable
The reviews for this course were right on. It's a great layout and provides enough challenges to keep you engaged. We golf once a week here in Southern California and this course would rate right up there with high end courses we play. Pace of play was excellent and the overall condition of the fairways and greens were really nice . Best value in our eyes when golfing in the Hilton Head area. .
Fantastic Golf Course
This is one of my favourite courses to play when I am in HHI. It is one of the few not to have houses on the course which I love. Great layout, great staff and great course. They are talking about developing the land and losing the course which I personally think would be a great loss to the area - please leave Hilton Head National as it is.
An HHI favorite
Technically, I guess, this is an "off the island" course. Not matter, I stay on the "heel" section of the island, and it still takes only 15 minutes to get the course. It's a 15 minutes well-spent, in my opinion.
The layout here is really good. A nice mix of par4s (most are in the 350-380 range, with a couple of 400+ yard ones). The par 3s are challenging without being ridiculously long.
The teeboxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens were in perfect condition.
We play here every year during vacation. We'll be back next year!
