Wild Wing Plantation - Avocet Course

We got there in plenty of time. No one rushed us to the 1st T. We got all the warm up we needed. I was able to use a Golfpass member deal. So, we played for about $88. We were very excited to play this course, as it was recommended with a lot of hype. The front 9 conditions were just okay. A little scruffy. A lot of water grass (weedy grass) throughout. The layout was good, not spectacular. Big bunkers that were in good shape. Now the back 9. Wow 👌. A really good layout. The bunker layout was spectacular. Huge and deep. You definitely did not want to be in them. The course conditions improved greatly. At the end of the round, the course kicked my butt 😚 So overall, we were happy 😊 & satisfied. We just thought it was overpriced. Had we payed the $115 total normal price I wouldn't have been happy with that. I get it, they charge what they can. But if you claim to be an elite course. Your conditions should be pristine for all 18 holes. Not just 9. Most of the greens were pretty good. But the par 3 #12 was a train wreck. Almost not playable. Staff friend. The kitchen closed early. And the Proshop merchandise was very pricey.

When you play in Myrtle Beach it’s not inexpensive. You want to play your best. We arrived at Wild Wing and checked in. I asked for range balls ant the shop person said sarcastically “no we can’t do that”. I thought he was joking. He said the picker was broken so I asked if there was a discount and he said they were in the business of selling golf not range balls. We should have just left at that point but we stayed. I then went to the cart to look at the score card but it was missing. I then went back into the pro shop and asked for one and was told the starter would give it to me in a rude voice We will never be back to Wild Wing again.

Everything was great, except the greens that were not in good shape; I saw more beautiful greens on other courses. We still have enjoyed our day with 2 nice partners from Myrtle Beach.

Don’t let the negative reviews scare you.we just played it and it’s in excellent shape some places on a few greens but will not effect your game they are working on them.the course is a great track and will challenge you

Larry Nelson did a fabulous job in the design. A couple of holes reminded me of Lahinch in Ireland. The greens were less than perfect but ok. I’ll be back

Called the pro shop to ask about course conditions. The staff on the phone said that the course was in excellent shape. What their excellent looked like was bare spots on the greens and weeds in the rough. Okay, weeds in the rough, no big deal. But the greens were in bad shape. They won’t get my money again.

Thoroughly enjoyed playing Wild Wing Avocet. It was a slow day so I ended up playing by myself which allowed me to hit additional shots and work on my game. Great tips from the Starter, really appreciated him taking the time to review key holes. Sorry don't have his name but I remember he was from Pittsburgh.

Loved the course layout; good mix of short and long holes as well as forced carries kept things interesting. Greens were a little slow. All in all I felt the course was in very good shape but still needs a little love. Great staff, good course, just a little more tender care would be much appreciated. BTW, good job with the bunkers (I found a few) and amazingly, looks like most golfers used the rakes.

Course was good but greens were not real good. Putted fine but were slow and had some bad areas.

Excellent test for mid-or-low handicappers. The variety of holes made play fun and interesting. My wife had problems on a few holes because of forced carries, but still enjoyable

Great layout...paired with really good guys...finished in 4 hours...greens were really slow and were rough on many greens..but...it is that time of year

Played Avocet. Fairways and tee boxes were good, greens were diseased and challenging as a result. Probably a result of Hurricane Debby rain. Pace of play was great and a drink cart was on the course.

Great course great layout great staff great food but poor greens currently. I’m sure the greens are much better than what they were today, they took a lot of damage from some sort of storm and smelled like rotting pumpkins. They still rolled okay just not what you would expect. Will come back later in the year, because with pure greens this could be one of the nicer courses in the area. Also replay fee for just 9 more holes was much more than expected. Would recommend after greens have been repaired if you are a decent golfer.

I had a great time at this course, the course was in great shape besides some of the greens and at the end of the round the shop explained they’ve been having a hard time with them since all the rainfall and are actively working on fixing this issue. The response and openness from the employees were greatly appreciated and the rest of the course was absolutely top notch. Can’t wait to return to this course

Wild Wing is truly a class act!

From when you pull up, to when you check in. The very best personnel you could ask for. I met Don and Rob in the Pro Shop. They treat you like they have known you for years. Not to mention, it’s an awesome course to play. I will be back for sure.

I played this course 2 days in a row because it is in such great shape. The people in the pro shop are awesome and extremely friendly. The starter gave us a good layout on what to expect. If you want a great experience, golfing , then Wild Wing is what you need to choose. Pro shop is exceptional, club house is the best too.
