Rating 74.3

Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.

The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.

The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

Very average

The driving range was mats only, so I couldn’t warm up my driver. Lots of bad lies in the fairway and not really not enough grass for the ball to sit up. Greens were not as good as I was led to believe.

Challenging with lots of course management

Lots of protected greens and sand traps at fairway landing zones make club selection key to keeping out of trouble (driver was not an option on many holes). As a result, lots of sand shots today, and they splash out out fairly well (a couple were wet and hard packed, but most were fine). The marshall told us they have removed 12 traps lately (there are still so many I can’t imagine where from), and they plan to remove 14 more. That should make it easier to play through. Greens are mostly raised and firm so hard to stay around some times. Although quite fast they rolled very true. Overall great shape and a great value. Definitely want to play again now that I know what to avoid.

Do not recommend!

Pace of play slow, course layout poor - several places where balls were coming at us from several directions - not from our hole. Dangerous at times. Conditions ok but will never go back or recommend to others.

Drive by

I wasn't impressed with the course location, non-descript, surrounded by busy roads, and traffic noise. The couse is flat and not very challenging,. I would not try it again.

Walkable and treat to play

Was greeted by Ken who graciously checked me in and walked me through the amenities after learning I had never played Cave Creek. Free ice and water and warm up areas for putting, chipping and the driving range was open and the carts have GPS.

I enjoyed the challenge and played better than average. Was 1st group off at 11:28am and played behind an amateur qualifying event that day. Marshal's and starter were all working and super personal and confirmed the white tees were back playing at the true ~6,200 yards as stated on the scorecard. The course was in good condition fairways over seeded and this rest of the turf was dormant/straw….and it played well. I paid $65.46 total to walk on Jan 13 and felt this was fair value. If it was close I would play it frequently. So go play it!

Collegiate Pride

GCU course was a challenging course. Between the traps and fast greens, it was tough to score well. Shot creativity is a must and plan on recovery shots if you are not precise. I appreciate the staff of GCU students that work at the course. They take a lot of pride in their course and helped my wife and I enjoy our experience today. Thank you guys!

Lots of sand

On the last cart path day, we ventured out on tees that were in great condition, fairways pretty good and greens that were very fast but true. Lots of unrepaired divots probably due to no carts on the fairways. Mistook the ONLY bathroom on the course for pumphouse and made it safely to the club house after 9 holes. To make this course challenging, they added sand traps. Unfortunately they don't know how to or care to maintain them. So plan accordingly.
