Grand Canyon University Golf Course
About
Grand Canyon University Golf Course (formerly known as Maryvale Municipal Golf Course) offers an 18-hole track designed by Ted Robinson, Sr. and built in 1961. The par-71 golf course measures 7,269 yards from the championship tees and is open year-round.
The Bermuda grass Grand Canyon University Golf Course gets plenty of shade during the summer, thanks to several onsite trees, and features flat and wide fairways.
The fourth hole, for one example, is a 160-yard par-3 where you'll have to shoot over the water - and past the brick wall that separates the green from the water.

GCU
The course is in good summer shape, except for bunkers that don’t have great sand. Pace was good since I played in the middle of the day in the summer. Found a hot deal so the price was right.?
Could be better
6:10 am tee time. Start 10 minutes late. Starter reading a book instead of greeting players and providing pin placement for the day. Most of greenside bunkers with very little sand to speak of. Ground under repair all over the course and not marked in some places. Greens were in good condition with consistent speed throughout. This was a top 10 Phoenix area muni course following the restoration and GCU takeover. Not close too that anymore.
Good for the price
Great course for the price especially when it's normally over $100 a round. This round was $45 and course was in decent condition. Some
rough patches on the green which blazed my putt. Staff were really friendly and welcoming. Overall good round
A LITTLE RESPECT / ETIQUETTE PLEASE
IF YOU AREN'T "BIG ENOUGH" TO SAND YOUR DIVOTS AND RAKE YOUR TRAPS MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONTINUE GOLFING AT SIMULATORS. AS YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS BEING ON A REAL GOLF COURSE
COURSE WAS IN GOOD SHAPE GREENS WERE VERY RECEPTIVE FAST AND ROLLED TRUE
SHOW SOME RESPECT!
IF YOU CAN'T SAND YOUR DIVIOTS, OR RAKE YOUR TRAPS MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONTINUE TO PLAY GOLF AT THE
" SIMULATORS" .
course is in over all extremely playable condition and greens are nice, fast and true.
Morning at GCU Golf Course
It was a perfect day!
Weather cooperated, pace on the course was very good, & course was in great condition!
Good Value
This course is generally in good condition all year round. The greens are always in great shape - that's #1 for me and today was no different, firm fast and true. There were some areas under repair around some fairway bunkers, and the tee boxes seemed to have a half an inch of new sand material on the top - very soft but that made no difference to me. This is a solid parkland style layout with more bunkers than your average course, challenging without being frustrating at a fair price. I play this one 4 or 5 times a year minimum.
Gets the job done
Nestled in the nefarious, war torn hoods of Phoenix sits this challenging little course. It was a windy day yet I still felt as if the hardest part was reading the fast greens. We’re talking bout running from the cops fast playa! (Translation: like a 12 on the stimp). So not quite hellcat fast. Anyways, pace is horrendous as most city card courses are. What can you do about it. Pretty much nothing. Recommend watching the Detroit Urban Survival Training series on YouTube first if you plan to eat at a nearby establishment afterwards.
Sandraps are dirt
The course should be in a lot better shape than it is. Coming out of springtime, it's worse shape I've ever seen. Especially this sandtraps and tee boxes overall condition terrible
Tough and Fair
I appreciate the opportunity to play this golf course, which is my home course. It was early, before the sun came out. When I got there, the staff was friendly, was professional, gave me great game on the course. Although, I didn't eat. I intend to grab something to eat before my next round culminates, before the second nine. But I do appreciate the staff was professional. They treated me well as an autistic golfer. I feel safe driving over there or using the ride share to expand some resources to this course to play again.
Good course
This was always one of my favorite courses but this time the course conditions were lacking. Greens were bumpy and thin. They are no longer the deep green they used to be. The fairways were ok but getting off the fairways meant very thin lies.
Poor course conditions
Where’s the grass? Very poor grass conditions on fairways and on the greens. Sand in traps was maybe 1inch deep and below that like concrete. Not at all like the conditions I used to experience there.
