Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Nice track
Beautiful course, well kept. Pace of play was a bit slow. In terms of scenery there wasn’t a whole lot, however the course was in excellent shape. Enjoyed this round but it was not worth $230 at twilight. But I guess you have to charge that because dummies like us will pay it.
Amazing course conditions
From the second we drove up every staff member was welcoming and helpful.
The clubhouse had a large selection of food to choose from and plenty of items in the pro shop to buy.
The fairways are immaculate. Essentially, a slightly longer grass from the green it appears. The greens are perfect.
Definitely recommend.
Desert Gem
Just a fantastic day at Whirlwind. Do yourself a favor and play here. Very easy drive from central Phoenix, but well worth it. We went early and had a great lunch. 10/10
Nice layout and challenging!
I would play it again ,found a decent price on GN other wise might be alittle pricey for me.Maybe try Devils claw next time .
Good day
The course was in great shape. The over seed was good, greens smooth and although still a bit slow for my liking and should only get better with time. Pace of play was good at 4 hours 2 min.
One of the Valley’s best
I golf all over the Greater Phoenix area. This course layout is very nice , no two holes alike. It’s truly a must play … Cattail is my favorite but Devil’s Claw is very nice also. You won’t be disappointed. Bunkers are superb also. Great value. Enjoy
Festus
Great golf experience. 10x better than that piece of crap Octillo that we played the next day. I would not recommend the latter but recommend Cattail.
A Challenge
Course was in great condition, was not cart path only, rough was high!
No ranger which would have helped and bar closed at 6 pm
5 hour 36 min round.
Cart path only still seems excessive. Mix that with cramming in to many people on the course yields an almost SIX HOUR round. Unacceptable.
Catttail fist timer
We had a wonderful round October 9th at Cattail. The course was pristine and had just gone through the winter overseeing preparation so the fairways were perfect. Very fun to play and recoverable. I look forward to the next time I play it.
