Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

No word during the reservation process about the greens being punched and sanded. W we would not have played there if we had known. Fairwwerw also punched. I guess that's what you get in the summer.
Greens need a few more weeks.
Course opened up on a few weeks ago from aeration. It needs a few more weeks to Heal and cure. Greens are still bumpy. The outside staff did an excellent job in stocking up carts with waters and showing us where to go. The inside staff could definitely use a little makeover.
7/6 afternoon round
As always, Cattail is a joy to play. Greens need 3 or 4 more days to begin rolling smooth. Fairways for the most part are decent. Only had to move my ball to find grass a couple times. Bunkers are great.

Course was in great shape, great staff, maybe the best golf carts I’ve ever seen, green and fairways in great shape!! Can’t wait to play again
Damaged my Clubs. No Call Back
Beautiful course but unfortunately one of the employees did not strap my bag into the cart and when I took off my brand news clubs hit the concrete and dinged and scratched up my new driver, hybrid, and a couple irons. I called the pro shop after it happened then went to the shop after our round to have some type of resolution but the manager was gone. Gave my name and number and never got a call back. Literally first time out with new clubs and they were damaged.
Top 5 in AZ
First class place to play based on conditions, layout, practice facilities, and the staff. I’m always impressed when I’m there.
Over Priced
Way over priced for the round. Course conditions were in decent shape, however the pace of play was horrendous. It’s a tricked up desert course. Pin placements were almost all on some sort of ridge. Greens had baked out and played like a rock. This is a 90.00 course , not a 200+ course.
Water the greens and put a Marshall out there to keep the drunks moving along and it will be a little better.
Great course!
This course is in great condition as well as the driving range. I would recommend this course to anyone, but it could be difficult for players new to golf.
