Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Always enjoy Whirlwind courses
Everything was wonderful. Only complaint is that the course was cart path only. On other courses that are that way Golf Now shows this information on the reservation form. This one did not. Got a sense from the starter that the course website did not have that information posted either. Otherwise a great experience.
Good Course and Value
Course conditions were great prior to reseeding. Playable with generous fairways but required shot placement and avoidance of numerous bunkers. Greens good
Wiould highly recommend.
vince salotti
Not an easy course to score on. Very challenging and in good condition. The pace of play was very good (4 hours). Can't go wrong with either of the 2 outstanding courses here!
Slowest round I have played in Arizona
This was not a fun round of golf. Unfortunately, the golf course management allowed tee times IMMEDIATELY after a shot guh start tournament. It was a 5 1/2 hour round and we waited on every single shot. Horrible. They should have paid us to endure this torture.
Nice, as always
I've played both courses at Whirlwind multiple times and it never disappoints. The course conditions were outstanding. The tees and fairways were beautiful and the greens were excellent. Green speed was average and they rolled nicely. The course was crowded and we waited a minute or two on most tee boxes but the pace of play was fine. We finished in four hours. All the course staff was friendly and helpful and the beverage cart was around every 4 or 5 holes. We had lunch after our round and the food was good and the beer was cold.
course in exellent condition , we sure enjoyed playing it
Great resort track
Wide forgiving fairways uncluttered by homes or structures. I've always found this course in good shape. Today was no exception. Maybe a bit overwateed is some areas but the greens werenrolling true if a bit on the slow side.
Good deal
Passed on this in the past due to high fees. Golf now special so tried it. A real good test. Conditions on course were very good. Will play again as long as it is under 90$
Condition of course
The course was in excellent condition .
The pace of play was good( around 4 hours). We had a good time today and will be coming back some time next week.
Great Shape expect for the fringe
The course for the most part was in good shape, greens in great shape but the fringe was dead on most of the holes which made chipping difficult, paid $40 so wasn't too upset about it.
No marshall today....
Had like a billion old ladies playing that day and were veerrrrrry slow....
On a few holes instead of taking a drop after not finding the balls after 10minutes of looking all 4 players hit out of bounds they would come alllllll the way back to the tee boxes and re hit 4 drives....
No marshall the entire round...other than that...great course
Condition of course/greens
The condition of the fairways were very good as well as the greens on Cattail.
Condition of course and pace of play
The condition of he course was good considering how hot it is getting. The fairways were green and most of the putting greens were green as well. The round took about four hours which I consider a good pace of play. I will be playing here next week.
Great course condition
Overall very good course conditions. Large fast but soft greens. Interesting hole layouts with generous fairways. Tee boxes are flat and lush. Fairways are soft and closely trimmed. Lots of mature mesquite trees.
Not bad. Could be better
This was my first time playing this course. Was really looking froward to it. The layout was nice, and the fairways were okay, but my only problem is with the greens. I am not sure what is going on, but the greens were in terrible condition. Lucky my round was only $40. I hope they work on their greens before raising their rates.
