Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Great value
Excellent condition for the summer months. Plenty of cold water on the course.
Summer golf in az
This course is always challenging and in great shape
Loved the ice cold towels brought out to us on the course
Great Troon course
Course is always in great shape . Course was quiet due to Labir day, so pace of play was great and with the low summer rate, it was one of the best deals this summer .
GolfNow hotdeal was worth every penny. Fairways and greens were well kept. Marshall kept pace perfectly just by being visible. Beverage cart was great in finding us a few tunes through the round. Staff in restaurant, after round were friendly, food was good, and drinks were appreciated.
Top class resort course!
My wife and I played the Cattail Course. The course was in great shape considering the hot weather. I would highly recommend this golf course and can only rave about the practice facilities.
This course is immaculate
Without question, this was a fine round of golf. All of the people their are extremely nice. Beverage cart came around on a regular basis without being annoying, the Marshal came by and provided cold towels. All in all, either course is great to play, and we all enjoyed the time there.
whirlwind cattail

An Upper-End Course
Once in a while you come across a new find. I had almost no sense of what this course was like going in. I saw reviews and knew the winter rates were usually high for this course, but otherwise I had no real sense of what to expect. With a hot deal, I was able to justify the longer than usual drive to get to this course, and I was glad I did. This is a Sheraton property, and to be expected, it was a very exceptional facility. The club house and restaurant were upscale and modern, the course conditions were at a very good level for this time of year, and the staff was great. The course is not super challenging, but there are several hole layouts that are interesting and a treat to play. The greens were fast, but true. You could definitely get a feel for how to play them after a few holes. Wonderful course. I hope to play it again soon.
Great course
I had a great experience from the second I arrived at the bag drop off location to the driving range and the first tee.
All the staff members are very professional and tend to your every need and the restaurant has a great selection of food I highly recommend this golf course.
Wonderful condition
Course in great shape. Greens are some of the best in Phoenix area. Only thing missing is shade at this course. Plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated.
Hot or Not - Worth it!
Great layout. The course was in fairly good shape. They have recently reopened the course after aerating the greens and some other up keep on the course. You could still slightly see on some of the greens that they had been aerated, but overall the greens rolled true. They were a little slow, but that was probably due to the heat. Overall fairways and tees were in good shape. During the summer months the value is well worth it. Just make sure you tee off early and have plenty of water on hand. It was nice to see the drink cart when it came around, which was about the right amount. Hit'em straight and have fun.
Whirlwind - Devil's Claw
Originally reserved for Cattail, but the starter mentioned to us that they aerated the greens, so he allowed us the option of playing Devil's Claw which we chose. Course was in great shape. Fairways are decent width and mowed tight. Greens were great and ran true but were not super fast. Staff was very friendly. Cart lady approached us at least 4-5 times during our round. Ranger brought us mango towels as it was starting to get hot. Clubhouse lunch was delicious and the staff was awesome as well.
