Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Always enjoyable!
Played Cattail course. Conditions were great and had a fun day! The course is a great layout. Plenty of landing area and the greens are in good shape. Was a little breezy but that kept the temperature comfortable. Friendly staff, terrific driving range, and lunch in the clubhouse was reasonable and first rate! Try the chorizo fundido appetizer!
This Course Was In Perfect Condition
If you're playing golf in the SE Valley, Let me save you the trouble of deciding what course to play. There are plenty of good courses, but this course is at the top of the list
Great Track and Playable
Awesome golf course with two 18 hole courses. This time I played Devil's Claw and it was a bit more open. Beautiful PAR 3's and gettable PAR 5's.
A Must Play in AZ
Great course, very well manicured and run! Rangers and staff are very friendly and you don't get the snotty feeling that some of these resort courses have. I also would recommend grabbing lunch after the round as the cubano mexicana is fantastic.
Tourist and now a residence
I love the layout of both courses. Very challenging greens and doesn't give away many birdies. Tom Short, Gilbert AZ
Beautiful Course
At 4.5 hours it was nearing my personal "I'd sooner not play than have it take that long" point, particularly for an 8:40 tee time. The ranger was around a bit on the front nine and even told our group that he was trying to speed up the group in front of us. The ranger disappeared and they never sped up.
The course was in wonderful shape tee to green. Essentially no rough until you hit desert. Mostly generous landing areas off the tee. The overly large greens ran true and fast. I'd like another crack at the two sporty par 4's. This course also has an outstanding practice facility including a chipping green.
I will play this course again depending on price and hope the round goes faster.
First Time, But Not the Last
A foursome of first time visitors to this facility. We played the Cattail course. Great course. The conditions were outstanding and the layout was fair. Challenging enough to be fun, without totally beating you up. If you hit your spots, it's possible to score. A great day and we all agreed we would be back.
great conditions
course was fair and in great condition and the yardage books are provided which helped a lot for never playing here. Had a nice lunch and a nice practice area.
Fun and chalenging round
Enjoyed this coarse a lot and will return to play again
The course is very nice
First time playing the course. Very nice would play again
Valentine day
On a busy Saturday, we. Played 18 holes on beautifully conditioned cattail course in just over 4 hours. The staff was very accommodating and the weather was perfect.
Whirlwind
The course was in top condition. Some of the best greens in the PHX area. Price was a little higher than its competitors.
Solid track, worth the money
Course was in nice shape, greens were very true. Would difinately play it again.
Nice course
The course itself is beautiful, fun, and challenging, but the surroundings off the course were not very scenic.
Great round of golf
Myself and 3 friends from out of state played here on Monday the 12th and the course did not disappoint. The course was in great shape and the greens were excellent. My buddies loved the course and would definitely play it again. Although being an AZ resident, I was surprised the rate was $90 plus tax on a Monday morning. But that's the AZ golf resorts sticking it to the locals as usual. I only played there because I had 3 out of towners and I knew a Troon course would be in good shape. Back to the practice range.

Good & Bad
Excellent course.. maintained in great condition..worth playing. Was a very slow twosome in front of our foursome and the Ranger showed no interest in helping. Cart person took food order but didn't deliver food for 5 holes. Lastly Golf Now rate was no better than the course rate.
Top-notch facility
LExcellent service, excellent staff, great course conditions. What else could you ask for! The greens were fast and true. The fairways are generous and lush. The course had its challenges and risk reward holes. If your get the opportunity play Whirlwind!
Very Nice
The cost included cart, green fees, and all the balls one wanted to hit on the range prior.
The course was spectacular and scenic. The range was very nice, with high-quality balls to hit. My understanding is that the greens are rolled and were fast, which was awesome. The balls rolled very true. Well worth the money to play.
Great Course
Another great Troon course in fantastic condition. Plenty of room on the fairways for my slice when needed. Just the right level of difficulty. Nice practice facility and staff is awesome!
Worth the drive
After many trips to Phoenix for golf we played this on a recommendation and weren't disappointed. Only downside was that it was carrots only due to overseeing. Would have rated food higher but there is no food at the turn when playing cat tail. Other than that it was a great round. Course reminded U.S. a lot of TPC Stadium but at a fraction of the cost. We'll be back.
