Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Outstanding layout. Outstanding service
Two of the best courses in South East Phoenix. Always pure with great service. Drop the wives off at the outlet store and courses 3 min away. Never dissapointed.
Tough (But Fair) and in Good Shape
We had a great time. $93 was a good value for a weekend in peak season. Especially with free range balls. Cattail was in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways, rough and greens were all nice. I'm a 5 and had fun from the gold tees. There are some longer holes but not bad. The Cart GPS is sweet. They are doing some construction on the clubhouse but no big deal. I played with a 25 and 32 handicap and they did fine from the silver tees.
I love this course
Booking this for reduced fee was such a good idea. I have always loved this course and we got a great deal. It was cold, but we played in under 3 hours, so we were happy. There were not many people brave enough to play in 55 degree weather, but it was quite enjoyable. The staff at this course are wonderful. We had a great time with the ranger.
Fun layout, Clubhouse Closed
Very pretty course. Fun playing a track that has no homes around it. Conditions were very good. They are remodeling the clubhouse right now, but it should be pretty awesome when it opens back up. Casino after the round is a nice draw.
Great course but slow play!
We like the Cattail Course a lot but Pace of Play was very bad this day. We saw a Player assistant one time but that was it. Course was in very good condition.
Fun and Challenging
Cattail is a fun and challenging course. Fairways are generous but you still need to hit some targets or your approach shots will be difficult to get close. Greens are well protected with bunkers and undulations. There are some forced carries but should not be too difficult from the right set of tees. Nice views of South Mountain, great practice facility.
Course is fair for all caliber of players
Played the Cattails course. Great greens, roll true, fairways quick and wide enough to hit plenty of them. Greens held incoming chip shots. Great views. Recommend
Just great!!
i play the Cattail course and very enjoy my day. Nothing to special or too fancy, classic all the way, no elevation change, wide fairway's very playable for any caliber. GPS on the cart.
Just great!!
A fun challenge
We found the course to be a challenge. If fairly easy to get to the green we found the green to be the challenge to the hole.
Take advantage of both the practice putting greens and the course book they give you. It is quite accurate including trees in the fairway and may help you navigate through the course.
The experience was fabulous!
Whirlwind Golf Club - Devil's Claw Course
It was a beautiful day of golf! The weather was perfect. The course was in excellent shape. We got around in just over 4 hours. The hot dog from the grill was tasty. It could not have been a better experience!
Wonderful Facility
I love both courses at Whirlwind. They are however, not worth $135.00 per round if you had to pay that, which I did not. Perfectly manicured fairways and not too difficult greens. We can't wait to return.
whirlwind Cat's Tail
Played this course for the first time. Great condition and recommended
Typical Troon Golf excellence
Desert golf. Wide fairways, big greens, typical of Panks design. Great condition and service, typical of Troon Golf managed properties. GolfNow Hot Deal makes it a great bargain.
Plays long
One of the best in the Valley that's for sure. A little hard to get to but worth the ride. Played there 10 times at least great views all day long. Not for the Beginner.
Cat Tail in October
Course was in good shape, greens a little bumpy but playable. Bunkers could use some reconditioning. This course starts overseed next week. Pace of play was very good. One of my favorite courses, always enjoy playing a Gary Panks design.
Great Deal for this time of year
They are going through overseed on Devil's Claw, so we had to play this course, but that never really mattered since they both have always been in great shape! Practice area is, in my view, second to none! A really great course, no doubt it will be even better after overseed. Staff, as usually, great and makes the trip worth it.
