Whirlwind Golf Club - The Cattail Course
About
Whirlwind Golf Club features 36 holes across 242 acres. Wild horses and native beasts roam the landscape - so don't let them drag you away. While just 12 miles from the metropolis of Phoenix, Whirlwind Golf Club's Cattail Course takes golfers to a secluded and scenic environment, where desert tranquility and beauty is a silent playing partner throughout.
Gary Panks designed the courses at Whirlwind Golf Club. The par-72 Cattail measures 7,222 yards and beings on Arrow Shot, a par-4 413 yarder; the South Mountain Range's canyons will guide you, but shoot straight. Things get long on Two Mesquites, the second hole, a par-5 517 yarder, which does feature Mesquites, a staple for the Gila River Indian Community, used in construction, medicine and food.
Finish up on Last Hole, a par-4 450 yarder that offers a good test to close on, as it is the course's most demanding to drive.

Great course poor staf
Why do they have a great golf course and the staff is so aloof. The bag boys do a terrible job. I dropped my clubs off had to take them out of the trunk myself set them at the bag drop, while they watched me. After I had placed them at the bag drop they drove down with a cart. They said nothing put them on the cart and drove the cart by the pro shop. Since they put the bags in the wrong positions I had to place them in the right position. After completeting play I told the bag boy I would place them in the car myself which I did I wonder how many other 74 yr old players are treated like this.
Great Resort Golf
My son and I played here for the first time, we both agreed we would be back to play again. Greens were fast but true. Tee boxes were excellent had 4 for any golfer to select from. We enjoyed our day will be back thank you for a great course.
Great experience
My wife and I highly recommend this course, played the Silver tees and was challenging for a 15 handicap. Tee boxes, fairways and greens in excellent shape. The yardage book is well lauded out and very accurate. The price was fantastic, great value, we will be back soon. Also, we had lunch and the Carne Adovado Chimi at the SIVLIK was excellent.
Course in Great Shape
Course was in very nice condition. Greens are fast but still playing true. It was a great round - warm (105 degrees) but we didn't see any other golfers for the entire round so we were able to play a quick 18 holes. I highly recommend this course.
Great course
This course was in excellent condition and somewhat challenging. The front nine was a little easier than the back, in my opinion, because it had some long par 3's. Overall I look forward to playing this course again.
Great Golf Facility
Always a pleasure to play at this golf facility. Great practice area, both courses are on my personal Top 10 in the greater Phoenix area and a nice clubhouse.
Quite Good
The whole course, tee boxes, fairways, greens, bunkers were in top notch condition. Everything I expect from a Troon course. Not the most scenic but very nice. Challenging course too. Great practice facilities too. Driving range, large chipping area with bunker and multiple putting areas.
Great course, very nice
Very nice range and course. It was a bit of a drive but it was worth it.
Fairways and greens were big and plush allowing players to be a bit off with their approaches and still have a chance to make par.
A good balance of tough holes and birdie chances.
We waited on a lot of shots but that was mostly due to a tough wind and stretch of about 5 holes that played dead into the wind. Once we got down wind the pace picked up.
Overall a very nice course that i would recommend
Desert golf as it should be.
Very nice course. Not too difficult, but enough to keep you challenged. Conditions were excellent in my mind.
Always enjoyable!
Played Cattail course. Conditions were great and had a fun day! The course is a great layout. Plenty of landing area and the greens are in good shape. Was a little breezy but that kept the temperature comfortable. Friendly staff, terrific driving range, and lunch in the clubhouse was reasonable and first rate! Try the chorizo fundido appetizer!
This Course Was In Perfect Condition
If you're playing golf in the SE Valley, Let me save you the trouble of deciding what course to play. There are plenty of good courses, but this course is at the top of the list
Great Track and Playable
Awesome golf course with two 18 hole courses. This time I played Devil's Claw and it was a bit more open. Beautiful PAR 3's and gettable PAR 5's.
A Must Play in AZ
Great course, very well manicured and run! Rangers and staff are very friendly and you don't get the snotty feeling that some of these resort courses have. I also would recommend grabbing lunch after the round as the cubano mexicana is fantastic.
Tourist and now a residence
I love the layout of both courses. Very challenging greens and doesn't give away many birdies. Tom Short, Gilbert AZ
Beautiful Course
At 4.5 hours it was nearing my personal "I'd sooner not play than have it take that long" point, particularly for an 8:40 tee time. The ranger was around a bit on the front nine and even told our group that he was trying to speed up the group in front of us. The ranger disappeared and they never sped up.
The course was in wonderful shape tee to green. Essentially no rough until you hit desert. Mostly generous landing areas off the tee. The overly large greens ran true and fast. I'd like another crack at the two sporty par 4's. This course also has an outstanding practice facility including a chipping green.
I will play this course again depending on price and hope the round goes faster.
First Time, But Not the Last
A foursome of first time visitors to this facility. We played the Cattail course. Great course. The conditions were outstanding and the layout was fair. Challenging enough to be fun, without totally beating you up. If you hit your spots, it's possible to score. A great day and we all agreed we would be back.
great conditions
course was fair and in great condition and the yardage books are provided which helped a lot for never playing here. Had a nice lunch and a nice practice area.
Fun and chalenging round
Enjoyed this coarse a lot and will return to play again
The course is very nice
