Devil's Claw is one of two golf courses at Whirlwind G.C., part of the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Chandler. In addition to its views of four mountain ranges -- South Mountain, the Estrella Mountains, the San Tan Mountains and the Superstitions -- Devil's Claw overflows with Native American culture.

A round on the Devil's Claw at Whirlwind Golf Club begins on Greasy Mountain, a par-4 424-yarder that faces Muh-wah Ha-dahk - the Gila River Indian Community's name for South Mountain. Things get long on the fifth, Maricopa Journey, a par-5 593-yarder designed to memorialize the travels of the Pee-Posh (or Maricopa tribe) from the Colorado River to where the Gila and Salt rivers meet. Go home via Going Home, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 442 yards from the Black tees. As the Gila River Indian Community sings it, "Our songs are ending as you go your separate ways, take along with you the good songs that were sung here today, as within your hearts."

Don't go straight home: You can still fit in another song after golfing the Devil's Claw golf course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in the clubhouse, which features a fully stocked bar and plenty of plasma televisions for relaxing and catching up on other sports.

Worth the wait!

Had looked at this course for a few years but could never find a price I was willing to pay. Finally got a good deal on GolfNow, and has a great time. A very nice desert-style course, with many interesting holes and it was in great condition, even though we played in early September.

Great Course

I always enjoy this complex. Devil's Claw is my preferred out of the 2 courses. Every amenity from carts, practice area, to the locker room is top notch. Couple of fairway's had areas of burnout, but overall not a factor. Only beef would be cost at this time of year. Although I rave about everything, and I do, when the course is wide open and it's 100 plus degrees, should be $75 and up in late June. $40-$50 is more than appropriate for this area of the valley. This isn't just a Whirlwind beef , but everywhere. Locals seem to get the raw end of the financial stick. Still love this place though.

Some areas on the fairways where the grass is burnt out from the heat and you are hitting off dirt/ patchy grass. Greens are in good shape overall.

Greens played like trenches

Course had been punched a couple of weeks ago, according to the starter but the greens were really bad. Felt like I was playing on cobblestones. Fairways looked like they were punches yesterday. Several areas u set repair. I wished I would have known prior to purchasing.

Five Hour Round in 104 F temp. Golf Shop didn't care.

Played on June 7, 2022. Tee time was 8:15 a.m. Pace came to a halt on the fourth hole. Called the pro shop. Found out that they had put a corporate event out at 7:00 a.m.! This was not a shotgun or reverse shotgun - they gave the group the first tee times of the day! This is guaranteed to ripple through and impact pace of play throughout the day.

Four groups to a hole by the time we reached hole #6. Called the pro shop again. They said they would have a marshal come out. We never saw one. Four groups to a hole for the rest of the day. Total time for the round: 5+ hours. Temperature: 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE.
