About
Devil's Claw is one of two golf courses at Whirlwind G.C., part of the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Chandler. In addition to its views of four mountain ranges -- South Mountain, the Estrella Mountains, the San Tan Mountains and the Superstitions -- Devil's Claw overflows with Native American culture.
A round on the Devil's Claw at Whirlwind Golf Club begins on Greasy Mountain, a par-4 424-yarder that faces Muh-wah Ha-dahk - the Gila River Indian Community's name for South Mountain. Things get long on the fifth, Maricopa Journey, a par-5 593-yarder designed to memorialize the travels of the Pee-Posh (or Maricopa tribe) from the Colorado River to where the Gila and Salt rivers meet. Go home via Going Home, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 442 yards from the Black tees. As the Gila River Indian Community sings it, "Our songs are ending as you go your separate ways, take along with you the good songs that were sung here today, as within your hearts."
Don't go straight home: You can still fit in another song after golfing the Devil's Claw golf course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in the clubhouse, which features a fully stocked bar and plenty of plasma televisions for relaxing and catching up on other sports.

The Whirlwind resort is first class in every respect. Troon golf does a great job! Devils Claw is a fabulous course in immaculate condition. This resort feels more like a private course!
A Good Challenge
Need a little more sand in the bunkers as I found them a little hard and dried out due the the sun. Otherwise, it was a very good experience.

I've played this course a number of times and it has never disappointed. For a true desert course experience this is a good one.
Desert golf at its best!
This course is top notch. Conditions were amazing. Greens in great shape, fairways like carpet! Tee boxes were level and well kept. Staff was friendly, but didn't go to the restaurant so I can't comment on that. Great experience.

Surprising boring design. Panks typically does good work, poston etc.
Extremely repetitive, oh look another bunker guarding the swing point, and a tree..... No imagination, no diversity, an overpriced yawner...

Gary Panks considers this one of his favorite designs. Too noisy
Course was beautiful but the drag racing noises on a Sunday morning took away from the beauty.
We apologize for the noise during your round. With the motorsports park so close by, a few times a year we do have to put up with hearing the races. If you come back to Phoenix in the future, let me know! We'd love to have you back as our guest.

Devil's Claw at it's best
Course in immaculate condition.......4 hour round so great pace of play. Played as a single with two cool guys from Minnesota........overall experience was the best. Practice range is awesome with ability to warm-up short game including bunker play. Very friendly staff and quick check-in.
Facility is finishing an extensive upgrade to the golf shop and men's locker room. Should be completed shortly and make Whirlwind even a better deal.
Are you up for a challenge, course is ready for you!
course is in excellent condition, great layout and the traps will kill you. plan to get there early enjoy an excellent range and outdoor restaurant. play then stay and have a couple of drinks and watch the sun go down. great place to spend the day!!
Big & Wide.......
1st timer at Devil's Claw.......must say I was expecting a little more. Nice golf course, well maintained, but not the most memorable. Some of the widest most generous fairways I recall playing. Big greens too. I played Whirlwind after The Boulders and before Las Sendes both more impressive courses to the eye! If you want to work on increasing your fairways hit give this course a try.
A must play for a trip to phoenix.
Wow! this courses is awesome! This was the best maintained course I've played anywhere. I'm the biggest penny pincher out there and this course is pricey. Worth every penny. amazing food at a fair price.best golfing experience I've ever had.loved it
No beer on the course?
It took the cart girl until the 6th hole to show up on our foursome. We all asked for a couple beers, not off brands Coors Light and Bud Light. The reply was I'm out, she opened the cooler and there were a couple IPA and specialty beers floating in water. I asked her to please hurry back with some cold beer. We didn't see here again until middle of the back nine! She did have Coors Light this time but no Bud Light. Big deal? I know but I paid $330.00 for my dad and I so it was annoying. Great golf course, I'll be back!
Best course in the Chandler area
This course is an extremely entertaining experience. From the time you drop your bags off at the bag drop, to the pro shop, the practice facilities, the golf itself and the after golf at the bar, was great. The staff at all locations were friendly and professional and I would recommend this course to anyone.
Do not pass this one up
A beautifully kept course and a great layout. Very fair but challenging. Greens had almost no pitch marks and fairways nice and firm. Play the correct tees and you're sure to enjoy a wonderful day.
Great greens
This is a great track with some fun challenging holes. Mostly wide fairways. Great condition. Greens rolled true. Every tee shot is uphill, so a little daunting for female players but pars are there for the taking. I'll definitely play here again!
Great Course
The course was in excellent condition. The practice facilities, driving range, practice greens etc are well above average. Played many higher end courses in the area and this one is right up near the top. Staff really friendly. The average rating on off course amenities is only due to the renovations currently occurring for upgrading clubhouse washrooms, but even the temporary portable washrooms were above average for porta potties. Already booking another round.
