About
Devil's Claw is one of two golf courses at Whirlwind G.C., part of the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Chandler. In addition to its views of four mountain ranges -- South Mountain, the Estrella Mountains, the San Tan Mountains and the Superstitions -- Devil's Claw overflows with Native American culture.
A round on the Devil's Claw at Whirlwind Golf Club begins on Greasy Mountain, a par-4 424-yarder that faces Muh-wah Ha-dahk - the Gila River Indian Community's name for South Mountain. Things get long on the fifth, Maricopa Journey, a par-5 593-yarder designed to memorialize the travels of the Pee-Posh (or Maricopa tribe) from the Colorado River to where the Gila and Salt rivers meet. Go home via Going Home, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 442 yards from the Black tees. As the Gila River Indian Community sings it, "Our songs are ending as you go your separate ways, take along with you the good songs that were sung here today, as within your hearts."
Don't go straight home: You can still fit in another song after golfing the Devil's Claw golf course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in the clubhouse, which features a fully stocked bar and plenty of plasma televisions for relaxing and catching up on other sports.

Good value for money
Had a great time playing with members as the first group out at 6:27am. Easy to beat the heat even in August!
Tough from the tips if you don't bring your A-game
Midday Madness
One of my favorite tracks in the valley and just a short drive away. Course was in excellent condition considering we're in the middle of summer. Got paired up with a 3-some representing PXG. Thanks Jimmie, Randy and Spenser for bringing out the best in me. Shot a personal best front 9 and overall round. Played the tips which I've never done on this track. Pace of play was solid...finished in just under 4 hours. The $18 GolfNow special made it all the more better. Will definitely keep coming back to the Devil's Claw!
Open fairways and forgiving greens
Wide open fairways and large greens make this a forgiving golf course.
great conditions for summer
Played the course on a Sunday morning. Pace was a little slow due to several groups in front of us that were very slow.. ranger kept them moving but took around 4:45 minutes to play and normally would have been right at 4:00. Course was in very good condition and staff very friendly.
Worth the time and the money
Played the course in the morning to beat the heat and the conditions were very good. Pace of play was good and the marshall was very interactive in making sure we were on pace and enjoying our round. One of the better courses I have played in the area and the service was above average. Top; Allow yourself time before and after the round to use the practice facility and club house.

Good value in the summer
I teed off at 12 45... and I was home by 345pm. The staff were very good..even a cold towel delivery in middle of round.. it's a nice touch. The course itself was crispy around the edges.. but few desert courses in Arizona aren't a little weathered in the dog days of July..
Will return.
For the heat of the summer this course was in great condition, I was pleasantly surprised.
Good Times
Course was in great condition, considering the heat. Starter let us play as a group of 2, which was nice.
Nice Course
The course was nice, no complaints but not as nice as the top 100 public courses in AZ (I played AK-Chin Southern Dunes the day before). Two things could have been better - 1) Fairways all had mowed grassed left on the fairways - 2) Maintenance workers kept mowing sometimes when I was hitting. Must hit the fairways, very little room off the fairways (desert golf).
very good layoout
We played around noon in 105* temperature. Two of us played in 2.5 hrs. Passed 1 other group. The course was in excellent condition. The transition from winter rye to bermuda was spectacular. The greens were ok. speed around 10 and receptive.
Whirlwind
Awesome Golf course, friendly staff, good 4-some! started on time and finished in just under 4 hours! Mango towels, cant beat it!
Great Facility/Staff
Had a great time playing Devils Claw. Very impressed with the facilities and staff. The course was in great shape. Greens rolled true and fairways were lush. Don't miss the fairway, little chance to find your ball if that happens ( I lost a few). Will be back.
well maintained course and friendly staff
could have a better sign at the entrance..nice looking facility, friendly bag drop, easy check in,nice starter and you get ball mark fixers, visually appealing course, nice fairways and rough, deep bunkers that are a little short on sand, but that seems to make them easier to get out of, but they need steps to get in and out of them, greens are smooth but not too fast, GPS is very helpful, could have better markings to get around the course,lots of water for drinking,the GPS control of the cart is a little annoying at times, but all in all a very nice course
True Desert Course
It was a great morning of golf and really a beautiful course! It was somewhat challenging but fair. Pace of play was decent especially for a Sunday morning. Tons of small wildlife on the course (ground squirrels, roadrunners, lizards, even a rattlesnake!). I would definitely go back and play again.
Great day
Course was in excellent condition especially the greens. Not a lot of people out there so pace of play was fast. Water on almost every hole. Course was not as difficult as I expected it to be. Friendly staff.
WOW!
What a day of golf. Have played the course before but not like this. Had a 1130 t time , arrived about 1030. Bag guy came to my car to get my clubs!! He ran to my car! WOW! Walked into the Pro Shop guy at the desk called me by my name. WOW! ( he really did not know me). Gor in the cart starter advised me I could take my time and hit a few. After about 30 came to get me and said I could play The other course as a twosome. I said Ok. What a surprise. I actually got to play a twosome with a PGA pro. WOW! What a day. If you want to play a great Troon course play this one. Even if you can't play with a PGA player. What a day.!
Great Condition and Pace of Play
Took advantage of great Mother's Day weather, and prices, to play this course for the first time. Impressed with the condition of the course, the grass was in great shape. I thought it wasn't overly difficult as the fairways are wide (if you can avoid the sand bunkers) and the greens tend to be surrounded by hills for forgiving approach shots.
Simply Great!
Highly recommend it, course condition is fantastic.
