Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course

Fairways and Greens were outstanding condition, especially considering this was early February! Desert-style course with a nice layout. The surrounding area is totally flat, but the course designer still managed to add interesting mounds and features to make the course interesting. We had about an hour frost delay and the course was packed (Wednesday) so just barely made it before dark. We had a special $75 rate, which is a very good deal, but I understand the regular rack rate is $135. I was surprised by some of the handicap rankings on the holes (the shortest hole, 130 yard par 3, was a 10) but that does not affect how nice the course is. I think this course is rated 4 1/2 stars and I would say that is an accurate representation of the course quality.

Club house under renovation so curb appeal not great but since my wife and I came to play golf who cares.the course was in great shape and fun to play.would have given 5 star's but greens were a little bumpy.

Played both courses with friends from out of town. We were thrilled with the condition of the courses. The staff was great and helped with printing boarding passes for my friends return trip the next day. I rated the Off-course Amenities low as they are going through construction and there was no golf shop for us to purchase memorabilia. Worth the trip to this facility.

Fairways in great shape but greens were very sparse and bumpy. Place of play was not managed until we only had 3 holes to go.

Very challenging course in excellent condition.
Not for beginners, but great for average and good golfers.

Conditions were brutal. Cold and very windy. In addition a tournament was happening and pace of play was really slow. Putting this aside, course was in good shape although the overseed on greens left the surfaces "thin" and ball mark repair left much to be desired. Architectural design is not the most inspired. Give it a B-.

Course still growing in from seasonal seeding. Should be in prime condition at start of new year, still very nice. I gave pace of play a four because my wife and I played with the two slowest people I have ever played with. The Marshal acted in a positive fashion trying to speed them up. When we got two holes back with frustration mounting behind us, he split us up sending us forward into the gap. It helped alot but maybe a hole or two late for everyone on the course. Construction for improvements going on, the course made great arrangements around it. Nice warm up facility and very friendly staff. Recomend this course.

It was cold and drizzling when we started. The course condition made it worth staying and playing.

We thoroughly enjoyed the course from the time we took our bags out of the trunk. Every one was very helpful and very friendly! It was probably one of the nicest course that I have played on. Would definitely go back!

Course was in great shape considering overseeding was just completed. Cart path only which is normal. Renovations on going which was the only draw back. The pro staff listening to jack hammers all day long. Didn't bother stopping after the golf because of the noise. Driving range was a long ride around the normal tee area. Not cheap

The Devil's Claw Course was just over-seeded and "cart path only. I have difficulty walking and no one gave me any indication the course was cart path only until I reached the second tee and noted the continuing "cart path only" signs and asked a marshal. I managed to painfully make it for all 18-holes, but if there had been any indication of the course wide cart path only restriction at the reservation or check-in stage I could have changed courses to Cattails or another venue.

First time on the Devils Claw. Was paired up with a couple other fellows that new the course WHAT a HELP. Enjoyed every hole greens are VERY fast and not one that didn't make you think not only about your line but speed as well. All staff members were very helpful and courteous. The entire course was in excellent condition. WILL play again and HIGHLY recommend both courses at this wonderful golf facility. Thanks

Nice course! Reminds me of Talking Stick South! Very similar layout and grounds. Played Devil's Claw so looking forward to playing Cat Tail later.

Fair & undulating greens, generous fairways, lot's of bunkers and fairly difficult surrounding rough around the greens; that spongy stuff where your ball sits up but there's 2-3" below before you hit paydirt. Gotta play that stuff carefully!

Played Devil's Claw on Labor day with a 9:45 tee time. Staff at Whirlwind is always courteous and professional. The course was in very good condition although the bunkers may have had a little too much sand in them. The greens were fast and true. We always enjoy playing here.

As usual, the course presented well and the playing surfaces were quite good although the the greens were slow.
Very happy to have played there again and the bar staff were welcoming.

Devils Claw is about three strokes easier than the Cat Claw course and it is fairly open on some of the holes but it is a nice course and it was very enjoyable playing there.
