About
Devil's Claw is one of two golf courses at Whirlwind G.C., part of the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Chandler. In addition to its views of four mountain ranges -- South Mountain, the Estrella Mountains, the San Tan Mountains and the Superstitions -- Devil's Claw overflows with Native American culture.
A round on the Devil's Claw at Whirlwind Golf Club begins on Greasy Mountain, a par-4 424-yarder that faces Muh-wah Ha-dahk - the Gila River Indian Community's name for South Mountain. Things get long on the fifth, Maricopa Journey, a par-5 593-yarder designed to memorialize the travels of the Pee-Posh (or Maricopa tribe) from the Colorado River to where the Gila and Salt rivers meet. Go home via Going Home, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 442 yards from the Black tees. As the Gila River Indian Community sings it, "Our songs are ending as you go your separate ways, take along with you the good songs that were sung here today, as within your hearts."
Don't go straight home: You can still fit in another song after golfing the Devil's Claw golf course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in the clubhouse, which features a fully stocked bar and plenty of plasma televisions for relaxing and catching up on other sports.

A Very Nice Experience
Devil's Claw was a challenging, fun course to play. Generous fairways, but large undulating grinds and well placed bunkers. Course is in nice condition, and well maintained.
Great time
Course was in great shape greens where very fast. Finished in 3 1/2 in a Sunday!!! We saw the Marshall every 3-4 holes.
One of my favorites.
Course in immaculate shape, tee to green, bunkers & fairways too. Every hole has character and fun to play. Definitely not let down choosing to play this course.
Great track!
Course was in excellent shape! Greens were holding (probably due to rain on Friday) and made it great for rolling the ball. If you do find desert, i recommend taking your lumps and the penalty - tough to hit it out of that terrain!
Whirlwind GC - Cattail
Played after the rain the night before, they receive 1 inch. Consequently cart path only was in play, made for a bit of a longer round once reaching the back 9. Overall conditions where in great shape, fun layout . Well worth the price on Saturday morning
Excellent Conditioning, Great Course
This is definitely a golf course worth checking out. The practice facility is impressive and the course is even better. Conditioning is superb and the holes are interesting. It's a bit of a hybrid in Phoenix as the desert does come into play, however it also has some holes that feel a little more "parkland". Highly recommended golf experience.
Slow Resort Golf on Saturday (Devil's Claw)
I get it...this is a resort, but over 5 hours on the course when you tee off early in the morning is a bit ridiculous. The answer from the ranger was "what do you expect on a Saturday at a resort?" Well I would never play here again on a weekend and I would not recommend you do it either. The course was immaculate and greens were very fair. Loved it except for the time.

great value on a weekday
Was a little disappointed with the pace of play, (5 hours) but overall the course was in great shape, and a great value at $65 on a Monday. We'll be back

Love the course and facilities and planning when we can come again. But, your drink prices are outrageous.

Always a pleasure
Played The Devil's Claw with my son as a twosome and had an awesome experience. This course was in excellent shape compared to the other courses in the area that I played during this trip to the Phoenix area.Fairways and greens were immaculate and the pace of play was extraordinary. We played behind a foursome and finished in 3 hr and 45 minutes. This course is well designed and has some of the most beautiful holes in the valley. I look forward to returning here on my next visit from Canada. Well worth the money.
Go Go Go
This facility is one of the best on the south side. 2 great courses, great location, Troon quality. Every time I get a good price at these courses I go.
Take the drive and check the Devils Claw (my fav).
Had lunch too which was excellent.
Deep Bunkers
Great course in good shape. Bunkers, both fairway and greenside are quite deep. Greens and fairways in good shape. Beverage cart very expensive.
ranger was of no help
Pace of play was so slow we had to quit after 14 holes. The ranger gave some explaination about a tournament that was wrapping up and assured us that things would pick up - but it just got slower and the groups were all crawing into the clubhouse. Beatuiful course, but the pace of play made it an unsatisfactory experience made worse by the lack of effort by the ranger and staff.
Course is in excellent condition
Greens and fairways are in excellent condition. Very good test for all levels of experience.
pathetic cart service
have played the course twice in the last two weeks. always well maintained and perfect greens and fairways. the beverage cart service on both occasions is awful/ both times the cart came by on the third hole and never returned the rest of the round. for a high end course this is ridiculous service.
