About
Devil's Claw is one of two golf courses at Whirlwind G.C., part of the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Chandler. In addition to its views of four mountain ranges -- South Mountain, the Estrella Mountains, the San Tan Mountains and the Superstitions -- Devil's Claw overflows with Native American culture.
A round on the Devil's Claw at Whirlwind Golf Club begins on Greasy Mountain, a par-4 424-yarder that faces Muh-wah Ha-dahk - the Gila River Indian Community's name for South Mountain. Things get long on the fifth, Maricopa Journey, a par-5 593-yarder designed to memorialize the travels of the Pee-Posh (or Maricopa tribe) from the Colorado River to where the Gila and Salt rivers meet. Go home via Going Home, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 442 yards from the Black tees. As the Gila River Indian Community sings it, "Our songs are ending as you go your separate ways, take along with you the good songs that were sung here today, as within your hearts."
Don't go straight home: You can still fit in another song after golfing the Devil's Claw golf course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in the clubhouse, which features a fully stocked bar and plenty of plasma televisions for relaxing and catching up on other sports.

Beautiful facility
First time playing at Whirlwind and it is a very nice golf course. We played the Devil's Claw. It's pretty open off the tee and a nice variety of holes. Fairways and tee boxes were very good and the greens were the best I've played in a while. Greens were pretty fast and rolled great. Not a difficult course but some challenging holes. It's a beautiful facility with great practice areas. I thought it was a little tricky finding Whirlwind off the I-10.
rainy day
1st time playing this course and it was cart path only due to remnants of a hurricane in az. The course played very long due to no roll but the fairways were draining very well. The course was very hard for my Father being cart path only due to the hilly terrain and his age . The greens rolled great but slow.
Beautiful scenery and the starter was very helpful with great tips on certain holes.
Will be coming back when the course dries out
Whirlwind did not disappoint!
The course was in excellent condition even though we had just received a lot of rain the night before. No standing water anywhere, even in the bunkers. The course could not have been in better condition. This is definitely one of the best "Value for the money" courses you will ever find. I will keep coming back and will tell all my friends to give this course a try.

Great course
Another Troon gem. There are 2 courses, this one and Cattail. We played both the same day and like them both equally. The pace of play was slower on this course due to a slow foursome in front of us. My wife and I were paired with a third and the foursome was late to the tee. Unfortunately the person paired with us went to the driving range, otherwise we could have teed off ahead of them. As a result it was a 4 hour plus round. All the holes are different and quite challenging but at the same time the wide fairways help with getting the ball in play. There are enough bunkers and waste area to keep you on your toes. This course would be a challenge for the advanced player as well.

A Very Nice Experience
Devil's Claw was a challenging, fun course to play. Generous fairways, but large undulating grinds and well placed bunkers. Course is in nice condition, and well maintained.
Great time
Course was in great shape greens where very fast. Finished in 3 1/2 in a Sunday!!! We saw the Marshall every 3-4 holes.
One of my favorites.
Course in immaculate shape, tee to green, bunkers & fairways too. Every hole has character and fun to play. Definitely not let down choosing to play this course.
Great track!
Course was in excellent shape! Greens were holding (probably due to rain on Friday) and made it great for rolling the ball. If you do find desert, i recommend taking your lumps and the penalty - tough to hit it out of that terrain!
Whirlwind GC - Cattail
Played after the rain the night before, they receive 1 inch. Consequently cart path only was in play, made for a bit of a longer round once reaching the back 9. Overall conditions where in great shape, fun layout . Well worth the price on Saturday morning
Excellent Conditioning, Great Course
This is definitely a golf course worth checking out. The practice facility is impressive and the course is even better. Conditioning is superb and the holes are interesting. It's a bit of a hybrid in Phoenix as the desert does come into play, however it also has some holes that feel a little more "parkland". Highly recommended golf experience.
Slow Resort Golf on Saturday (Devil's Claw)
I get it...this is a resort, but over 5 hours on the course when you tee off early in the morning is a bit ridiculous. The answer from the ranger was "what do you expect on a Saturday at a resort?" Well I would never play here again on a weekend and I would not recommend you do it either. The course was immaculate and greens were very fair. Loved it except for the time.

Was a little disappointed with the pace of play, (5 hours) but overall the course was in great shape, and a great value at $65 on a Monday. We'll be back

Love the course and facilities and planning when we can come again. But, your drink prices are outrageous.

Always a pleasure
Played The Devil's Claw with my son as a twosome and had an awesome experience. This course was in excellent shape compared to the other courses in the area that I played during this trip to the Phoenix area.Fairways and greens were immaculate and the pace of play was extraordinary. We played behind a foursome and finished in 3 hr and 45 minutes. This course is well designed and has some of the most beautiful holes in the valley. I look forward to returning here on my next visit from Canada. Well worth the money.
