About
Devil's Claw is one of two golf courses at Whirlwind G.C., part of the Wild Horse Pass Resort and Casino on the Gila River Indian Reservation near Chandler. In addition to its views of four mountain ranges -- South Mountain, the Estrella Mountains, the San Tan Mountains and the Superstitions -- Devil's Claw overflows with Native American culture.
A round on the Devil's Claw at Whirlwind Golf Club begins on Greasy Mountain, a par-4 424-yarder that faces Muh-wah Ha-dahk - the Gila River Indian Community's name for South Mountain. Things get long on the fifth, Maricopa Journey, a par-5 593-yarder designed to memorialize the travels of the Pee-Posh (or Maricopa tribe) from the Colorado River to where the Gila and Salt rivers meet. Go home via Going Home, the 18th hole, a par 4 that measures 442 yards from the Black tees. As the Gila River Indian Community sings it, "Our songs are ending as you go your separate ways, take along with you the good songs that were sung here today, as within your hearts."
Don't go straight home: You can still fit in another song after golfing the Devil's Claw golf course at the Whirlwind Golf Club in the clubhouse, which features a fully stocked bar and plenty of plasma televisions for relaxing and catching up on other sports.

Fantastic Facility
I will definitely be back. I was very impressed by the overall excellent condition of the course and the upscale feel. Not crowded at all. This is a beautiful course.

Southern Jewel
While a bit south for many Phoenix visitors - this is a real jewel - two great courses - a bit flat in places
Some trouble in play from most tee boxes - but very fair
Great course
Course was challenging, yet playable for all levels. I had the unfortunate task of putting up with a loudmouth in front of me and didn't like that too much, but there wasn't much that the marshall could do. Pace was fair at about 4.25 h.

One of the best in the valley in terms of conditio
Dream players had played the course in the morning and to play 18 holes in 6 hours is pathetic. Of course no one said the play on the back would be slow, only found out after the fact. I hate excuses and to say the kids are playing for money

This course was in fabulous condition and a good test of golf. The pace of play was nice and of course the weather was perfect!! It is a nice feature to have many drinking water coolers on the course! Thanks!
top shelf resort course!
Devils claw course is a very good golfing experience. From the friendly staff at the bag drop to the staff in the pro shop well done for making you feel welcome! The course is not overly dificult but we played the gold tees about 6700 yards but from the tips it probably a whole different animal. Overall conditions were perfect besides the wind. Greens can be tricky if your not on the correct level,lots of tiered greens,going to play the cat tail course today so I'm sure it will be another great day of golf inAz.
Great Day of Golf
Good course for all levels. Course as always was in great shape. Make sure you play the right tee boxes for your play ability.
Food Cart Courtesy
Course advertised pace of play as being 4-1/2 hours or less... Front nine was slow but fairly steady. We found ourselves on the back nine waiting an average of 10 minutes before we could tee off on a hole.
Then the food cart person did not stop while we were teeing off...a lesson in course courtesy is definitely needed here.
Course is nice, staff is better.
Staff made you feel welcome and made the experience good. Course is very green and in good condition. Practice area is great but a little steep at $25 to go hit balls. I have returned for a second year to play here and would come back for a third.
Great course
First time to Phoenix. This course was in excellent condition. Book as a single and got paired up with another group. I would defiantly recommend this course.

Tough day on the course but a wonderful day overall
Playing back tee when A-game is not showing up increased the difficulty level of the course. The wash areas have been visited more often than anticipated.
Professional staff from bag drop to 18th hole has made the day an almost perfect day. Course conditions were great and scenery is a lus compared to oher golf courses.

Great courses. Challenging and fair. Course was in excellent condition and the greens read true.
Nice Experience
Devils Claw at whirlwind offers a challenging round of golf in a beautiful desert setting. The fairways were in great shape and the surrounding desert often leaves one with a playable lie. The greens were firm and true despite small marks left by golfers apparently too lazy to fix their ball marks. The surrounding mountains offer a beautiful backdrop.
Just don't expect anything quicker than a four hour round during the busy winter months.
great course
my only negative comment was that the marshall asked us to pick up our pace of play after 4 holes. we had no one behind or in front of us. We were a 3 some and when he warned us we were on pace for a 3 hour round. 2 holes later we caught a foursome and so we finished in four hours. Other than that only positive things to say...its pricey but worth it. We played ASU Karsten and TPC Champions and this was easily a better course than either.
