Excellent course and a great testing layout
We have played here a few times now and its a lovely course.
Unfortunately, this time we got stuck behind two very slow players he did not wave us through. A member of the club spoke to them after the round to try to explain general course etiquette.
Didn't spoil are day, but it was an over 4 hour+ round for a two ball!
South Moor
Good goof course McKenzie design with two tear greens. Nit the hardest in the world but certainly a good round of golf.
Great course great nik
Great course great nik, greens spot on fairways running all round great condition.
Lovely layout with lots of variety.
One of Durham’s best
And cheap as chips
Front 9 eases you in nicely, tricking you into thinking you’re going to play the round of your life, until the nasty, unforgiving and difficult back 9 humbles you. Brilliant course, tight fairways and fast greens, fantastic value for money and well maintained.
I played alone on seniors day so kept getting caught behind 3 or 4 ball seniors but they did mostly let me play through. That explains the pace of play rating. I will be back.
Beautiful South Moor GC 😍
South Moor is an absolute belter of a course. From the par 3 1st to the par 4 18th, every hole is a challenge with undulating fairways, lightning fast greens and plenty of hills to keep you fit. One of the main reasons I wanted to play here was because it is a Dr Alister Mackenzie course (Augusta legend) and I wasn't disappointed. Can't comment on off course amenities as I didn't use them but the guy in the pro shop was super friendly 👌🏻 I have marked the course down one mark due to the bunkers, they're not great, improving them is much needed. All in all, I highly recommend this course and I will be playing here quite a bit over the summer 👍🏻🏌♂️⛳️
McKenzie gem in the North
Played on a busy Bank Holiday Monday.
Played solo and thankfully groups were happy to let me play through so round took just over 3 hours = acceptable.
Hilly course so be prepared for never having a flat lie with a comfortable stance. Choose your lines carefully especially on the holes running across the hillside. A few blind tee shots also.
Tee boxes could do with a little TLC.
Excellent greens
Great course layout with brilliant greens for time of year
Excellent course!
Played here a couple of time now and have really enjoyed it! The course is beautifully kept and provides a challenge for all level players. Would definitely recommend this course to anyone who would like to play 18 holes on a fantastic course!
Avoid in the winter
Decent layout, and pace of play was brilliant with nobody holding up our three ball, and nobody directly behind us either. However, the course conditions left a lot to be desired as it was akin to a swamp in places. It's very hilly, and conditions were better the higher we went, but lower down it was boggy. I'd probably play here again, but not until the summer at the earliest. As mentioned, it's very hilly though, so if fitness is something you struggle with, maybe avoid it.
First time playing
Great course, good challenge and well-maintained. Will definitely be back
