Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
About
The Navy Golf Course Seal Beach is a 27-hole facility that includes the championship Destroyer Course and the nine-hole executive Cruiser Course. The 6,780-yard Destroyer Course presents a challenge even for low handicappers with a slew of hazards coming into play throughout. The small greens have challenging slopes ranging from subtle breaks to dramatic drop-offs. To make them even tougher, you'll find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the edges. The tricky doglegs, which are mostly par 4s, will force you to think carefully about your club selection, and to top it all off, water makes an appearance on almost every hole. It's a long golf course that feels even longer due to the rolling terrain, but it is more forgiving than it seems with long, wide fairways that won't penalize you for being slightly errant.

Not like it use to be
Greens are sandy and unkept, fairways are not what they use to be, slow pace and worst of all don’t get ice from the snack shack on destroyer. Was in a dirty bucket in ground thet was lined with cheap trash bag. It had dirt and smelt like plastic. Ruined my drink I out in it. Not satisfied which is a shame cause I loved this course

Problems
Maybe my favorite regular course. Always in great shape. Ive never seen it this bad EVER! I dont know whats going on but i would avoid for the next few months at least. Greens are 50% dead, fairways are butched with multiple dirt and dead lies. Figure it out quickly.

Worst Course Condition Ever
I have played this course for over 20 years & have loved it. Recently they raised their rates to what I believe are too high so I will probably now only play at twilight rates. But first the course condition needs to improve.. The course condition is generally great but this round was horrible. On quite a few of my shots that actually hit the fairway I was hitting my next shot off of dirt. The greens have always been great but there were multiple times in the round that I could not putt without going over multiple dead spots. 75% of one of the greens looked dead.
I generally love this course but was VERY VERY disappointed in the condition for this round. It will be a while before I try to play here again & this is said because it's the closest course to my home.

What happened to this course?
This course used to be a nice course. Greens used to be the best in Orange County. Not sure what happened. Looks like they cut a lot of water. Every green has several dozen bald spots. Fairways are patchy at best. Lakes/ponds have completely dried out. Challenging/fun layout, but I would probably pay $20-30 at most to play here. They are charging $70. Which is absurd for a course in this condition.
On top of that, pro shop employees both looked like they hated their jobs and were irritated with ppl coming in to pay and play. Big sighs, and uninterested in being friendly.
Save your money and play elsewhere. Long Beach public courses are much nicer and way better value for the money.

Used to be a gem
I can't count how many times I've called this course my favorite course in the area, but that all changed today. The conditions at heartwell or costa mesa CC are better. The greens are being eaten by fungus and have turned to dirt on every hole on the destroyer course. The tee boxes have thin grass on every box. You can see the dirt. I don't mind the dry lake beds because we can play out of them, but I am blown away by how horrible this golf course has become. I was here a month ago and the greens were at least in good condition. You can't even putt them. No reading these greens. It's embarassing. This course was lovely when Trump was directing this governments troop amenities. I wonder what's changed?

Drought conditions
This course is in desperate need of water. Fairways are rock hard, dry and bare. All water hazards except one on hole 5 are dry lake beds. Greens are bumpy and full of imprints and un-repaired ball marks. Bunkers have little to no sand consisting of hard pan under a thin layer of dirt. Tee boxes are hit and miss with grass. Course was in much better shape in winter.

Not worth what they are charging
Not sure what is happening here but fairways are bone dry with bare spots in between dry patches of grass. Bunkers have more hard packed dirt than sand, Dry lakes on all former water hazards and hard, dry, bumpy greens. Foursome of Asian men in front of us were painfully slow. Our group waited for five minutes on every shot and 10 minutes for them to putt. No one enforcing pace of play.

Starters was confused
The person who was running the tee times looked lost. It was unorganized and too many tee times together. I hope Corona courses get maintained better again so there are more options than this course.

Greens was tricky
Usually have good experience but 50 year old white marshall was horrible. The tone he talks to players and not just one group but overall was rude. He gives off a bad vibe not inky for himself but he just has bad aura. He needs to watch his tone especially for someone making minimum wage. If he is so mad at his own life, he should actually do something with his life. Be happy brokey and enjoy your free perks of playing for free once in while.

Marshall is a bitter person haha
Enjoyed but marshall could learn some manners. He seemed mad at life which is a bummer for him. Golf is fun.
