Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
About
The Navy Golf Course Seal Beach is a 27-hole facility that includes the championship Destroyer Course and the nine-hole executive Cruiser Course. The 6,780-yard Destroyer Course presents a challenge even for low handicappers with a slew of hazards coming into play throughout. The small greens have challenging slopes ranging from subtle breaks to dramatic drop-offs. To make them even tougher, you'll find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the edges. The tricky doglegs, which are mostly par 4s, will force you to think carefully about your club selection, and to top it all off, water makes an appearance on almost every hole. It's a long golf course that feels even longer due to the rolling terrain, but it is more forgiving than it seems with long, wide fairways that won't penalize you for being slightly errant.

Flat but challenging
Good conditions and flat layout. Makes for easy driver shots but there are many water holes that feature deceptively narrow landing areas. Greens were in good shape. Except for the lack of course marshal anywhere when the course is worth playing.

Navy Destroyer is an underrated gem in Long Beach area
I've lived in the South Bay for about 4 years. As we all know public golf in SoCal is tough - long rounds, with mediocre conditions make it frustrating to play on a regular basis. Because of this I really feel Navy is a underrate gem-pace of play is always pretty good (I've played 20+ times and never had a round longer than 5 hours) and their conditioning is always good to excellent. I like the staff as they are friendly. Their booking system is pretty simple to use and I've never had a problem getting a time online. It's a pretty good layout and but not super challenging.

Good but too slow
Our 2 ball made into a 3 ball but after 4 ball let us through on 8 we had brief period of not waiting. Shame that pace of play spoiled appreciation of a nice course. Would come back if in the area as not much choice in this price range.
We love hearing about our golfers' experiences, mau5tin. Please tell us more about what you enjoyed from your round with us. Thanks for choosing us!

Play where Tiger played
Tiger Woods' influence has been so significant for more than 20 years that his aura continues to hover over golf. Several courses claim connections to him, but few have the ties that Navy has. It's where Earl Woods learned the game, and where a young Tiger Woods hit thousands of balls and played hundreds of formative rounds. Intriguingly, there are no formal mentions of Tiger anywhere - after all, as big as he is, he'll never be bigger than the U.S. military. However, there are informal landmarks related to him: a tree on 6 and several other sites on particular holes.
Those holes, by the way, are fairly straightforward, with plenty of birdie chances and some exquisitely-kept greens for a course that receives so much play (good luck getting a late-notice weekend tee time). The crowd of regulars has plenty of characters, and they love their course. There are some neat holes bordering the airfield but you play here more for the atmosphere than the actual layout.
