Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
About
The Navy Golf Course Seal Beach is a 27-hole facility that includes the championship Destroyer Course and the nine-hole executive Cruiser Course. The 6,780-yard Destroyer Course presents a challenge even for low handicappers with a slew of hazards coming into play throughout. The small greens have challenging slopes ranging from subtle breaks to dramatic drop-offs. To make them even tougher, you'll find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the edges. The tricky doglegs, which are mostly par 4s, will force you to think carefully about your club selection, and to top it all off, water makes an appearance on almost every hole. It's a long golf course that feels even longer due to the rolling terrain, but it is more forgiving than it seems with long, wide fairways that won't penalize you for being slightly errant.

Navy Golf
We started at 12 noon and finished before 5PM with Golf Now special deals. The course condition was overall very good although A few holes had many ball marks on the greens. The course layout is one of the more challenge ones in the neighborhood, with total length of 6800 yards.

Pleasantly surprised
First time playing this course and wasn't really expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. Lots of water in play and the greens were in good condition with some tough pin placements. Pace of play could have been better but really didn't distract from the overall experience. I'll be back

Very Slow Pace, Average Conditions and a Forgiving Layout
First of all the staff here in the pro shop and cafe are great. It’s a very nice place to spend a leisurely afternoon playing golf. I emphasize LEISURELY.
My tee time was at 2:30 as a single player and I was grouped up with two other golfers. We tee’d off on time but it was apparent from the start that the pace of play ahead of us was going to be very very slow. Like a lazy drive down a crowded boulevard on a Sunday.
The pace of play seemed to largely be due to groups ahead of us unfamiliar with the basic course rules (stated on many signs) and some of them seemed new to golf so they may not have any idea that the course had guidelines or even know the basics of etiquette. I did not see a Marshall, and these are situations where one could share guidelines to help everyone on the course out.
The conditions:
Tee boxes: 3/5
Fairways: 3/5
Greens: 2/5, very slow, soft, a few were in very poor condition so much that your ball would bounce even on short puts.
Course Layout: This is a very forgiving course layout for golfers with little accuracy control. The fairways are wide open, a miss will land you in the next fairway with an easy shot putting you back in your fairway. The design of the greens is the highlight here with a few tiered greens with major elevation changes, however they weren’t well kept. The bunkers and hazards are placed in a way that would be better described as scenery with only one or two holes asking the golfer to make a shot to avoid them. The tree lined sections of the course are rarely out of bounds because the trees are spaced out. An easy, but enjoyable course.

Navy destroyer course
First time playing the destroyer course. Was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the greens. Tee boxes were nice and level. Lots of water in play on this course. We got stuck behind a 4 some that played like they were putting to win the masters... 5 hours even to finish out.
Thank you for your review. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Navy Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

PACE OF PLAY
Marshall needs to get on his horn to people to speed up. Four group back up at the 9th, and only solution was to let people hit up. NO. Get on groups about playing with some urgency and picking your ball out of the hazard if you can't play it out quickly.
Exceptional layout especially the very challenging approaches to the green. This course rewards fairway strikers and narrows down fairways beyond your 2i-3w landing zones. You can go for the bomb and be pitching in but only with danger.
Greens were way too slow and our carts found themselves on some terrible terrain (even on the paths) that needs to be smoothed out.

Challenging Course
We enjoyed the course and appreciate the starter moving up our time adding 2 singles to make a 4 some. Although it was Monday, the course was busy and slow. It would be helpful to have signage pointing out the direction for several of the holes. Luckily, one of our group had played the course before. Our round took over 4 1/2 hours. The greens were well maintained and the facility is clean. A marshal on the course may have helped pace of play. We’d like to play again.
