Destroyer at Seal Beach Navy Golf Course
About
The Navy Golf Course Seal Beach is a 27-hole facility that includes the championship Destroyer Course and the nine-hole executive Cruiser Course. The 6,780-yard Destroyer Course presents a challenge even for low handicappers with a slew of hazards coming into play throughout. The small greens have challenging slopes ranging from subtle breaks to dramatic drop-offs. To make them even tougher, you'll find strategically placed bunkers lurking along the edges. The tricky doglegs, which are mostly par 4s, will force you to think carefully about your club selection, and to top it all off, water makes an appearance on almost every hole. It's a long golf course that feels even longer due to the rolling terrain, but it is more forgiving than it seems with long, wide fairways that won't penalize you for being slightly errant.

No Complaints Here!
I must say, I didn’t think the course would be as nice as it was. There were a number of reviews about the shape of the course from a month ago that were not very flattering. But, the course was in excellent condition. There were two tee boxes under repair, but a satisfactory alternative was in place. I tee’d off at 7am, my reserved tee time, and I was done by 11:10. A great pace of play. The staff were all friendly and helpful. No complaints here!
Great cpurse
I love playing this course even though it is always crowded. We usually play here when the price drops consequently others with the same idea are here as well. The course is normally overpriced. What really gets me is the snack bar is never open for the late afternoon rounds or even the early morning rounds. Maybe if the course concentrated on added sales, food and drink they might be able to lower the price.
Atten Hut!!
Good clean well taken care of course. Go play a round!
Playing Golf & NOT working
Beautiful day! Went out as a twosome and had a great time. Definitely want to tee off early or you'll get stuck behind the crowds! Cruiser course is a great little track too! A number of golfers would benefit from spending time on that course before playing the Destroyer! Great staff!! Thank you!
A good walk
This is a great track to sharpen your game. Good par 3s, reachable par 4s. Par 5s are challenging. Greens have undulations and breaks, so study them. The staff here is cool and professional. Two thumbs up!!!
First Time at Destroyer
Played here for a tournament with OC Fire. Never played either course here before and all I knew was that it was pretty long playing from the blue tees.
The course played very well, pace was good even for a tournament and the greens were in great shape. There were a few holes where hazards came into play that you could not tell were there so pay attention to the GPS on the cart. Lots of activity on the adjacent military airfield which to me was a bonus.
Would play here again in a heartbeat.
Great Track for The Money Too
Navy was the course everybody wanted to play back in the day but couldn't since it was only open to the military. Today anybody can play any time they want. Greens are always good here and now, the fairways on many holes are great too. Lots of trees but really don't come into play on most holes unless you really miss it. Front nine goes straight out and into the wind every day. Back nine, straight back in and most holes are downwind. 3 of the 5 finishing holes are really tough and the last three holes are straight down the runway of the Naval base next door. Very good track especially for the money compared to other local choices.
One of the best public courses
Very helpful staff and great course conditions. A shout out to the maintenance team for a job well done.
Will definitely come back soon.
Bathroom
Request for bathroom cleaning due to badly smells .
Very Windy on 4/17
Course was in overall great shape, except the greens. They are still recovering from the aeration a few weeks ago -- so the greens are still a bit slow and bumpy. Fairways were in great condition, tee boxes were punched too but are recovering. I'd give them another week for the tee boxes and greens to come back fully. Wind was absolutely crazy yesterday, gusts up to 40 mph, very tough conditions. pace of play was slow but probably due to the windy conditions but not too sure.
Fastest round of my life
We booked a 6:15am tee time hoping to hustle around the course. 18 w/ cart twosome. I was dismayed when I got to the starter 5 minutes early and he said we were late! In front of us were several groups, when I thought we were first out. He assured us everyone was incredibly fast. He moved us up a couple of groups. We quickly realized we were surrounded by regulars. And everyone was VERY fast. We were hustling to keep up with the threesome in front of us. Played 18 in about 2:45!!
Additionally, the course was in amazing condition. Almost flawless greens. Do they have free military labor or a generous budget for this? It was incredible.
A flat layout with nice mix of doglegs. Excited to play again@
Cool location, pretty nice course for the money, bad Marshall attitude
Course was nice overall. Seeing all the military planes and choppers at the airport next door was pretty cool in my opinion even tho they were kinda loud i didn’t mind it. Pro shop staff was nice but the Marshall was terrible. The pace of play was really bad. We were waiting 5-10 minutes to tee off on every hole in the front 9. On the 6th hole we were 3 groups backed up. No exaggeration. And the first 8 holes are all par 4,5’s and we were that backed up. Finally we called the pro shop and asked for a Marshall to come around to try and improve the pace of play....what ended up happening was him coming to argue with us telling us that it was perfectly normal and that we were lying about the wait time. I wanted to laugh in his face at first at how shocked i was at his comments, but all it did was get me upset. I told him thanks for your help and let him go on his way. Then he comes back around on the 11th or 12th hole and tries to tell us again that the pace of play was normal lol. We didn’t even stop or approach him this time and he still stopped to argue his point....unbelievable. Honestly, all he had to do/say was I’ll look into it, or I’m doing my best, or we have a couple slow groups ahead of you and there’s not much i can do about it, or hey guys it’s just really crowded today, sorry. Anything would’ve been better then him arguing with us and calling us liars basically.
Other than that this course was good, and i would still come back and try play it at least one more time. Also a little disappointed that there wasn’t a drink/food cart person going around and the snack shop was close after the 10th hole. Pretty surprising on a weekend.
Wasn't aware the greens were punched when I made a reservation. Greens were very slow compared to previous rounds. Still, nice layout with fairways in good shape.
Not worth the money during this extensive renovation.
I recently played the Navy Course on Wednesday March 28th. Upon booking a great deal on GolfNow there was no indication or alert for Aerification or Maintenance. When I arrived I was told by the staff that there was aerification going on, which sucked to hear since I left work early. But I have played thru most aerification before with no major issues. The first 2 holes were fine, punched greens with sand but that was to be expected. The next 15 holes were a disaster. Most fairways were dug up, aerated those too. Entire fairways. Then each one of those 15 holes after the greens were sad circles of chunked up grass with a cup in the middle. The bunkers were poor and the larger ponds/lakes were dried up or drained with signs in the middle. Tractors casually with no intention of moving plowed thru the fairways as your left to wait to hit. Finally the 18th was alright but at that point my mind not to come back for at least 2 months was made up. I normally like this course but this was way abnormal for maintenance or Aerification. I have requested a refund from GolfNow with no response.
