Whirlwind Golf Club - The Devil's Claw Course

Played with my wife and adult son. Course was in fantastic shape - fairways were lush and greens rolled true. I come to Phoenix a lot and this was one of the best golf experiences I've ever had here. I immediately made reservations for another round for us in the next few days. Don't miss this great golf course at a very reasonable cost.

Great conditions, playing more difficult than rating

Troop course with great layout, great tee boxes, cart paths, fairways, greens. Longer grass fairways then most area courses. Challenging but not too many Sand traps. Our only knock was a lot of grass clumps on fairways and close to green! Course is spendy at about $125 a round without troop card. We loved course overall

Great desert course generous fairways great visuals. The pace of play was not an issue due to the weather, windy, and unseasonable, cold.

Fairways and greens in great shape. Was paired with a local twosome who normally play the course. Twosome was friendly. Staff was great, bar served generous portions and burger was excellent.

Excellent course and I got on at an excellent price. I had not played here before so the cart GPS was very helpful.

The course was very well maintained, no flaws. The course is beautiful with many challenges. Wish I lived closer, I would play as often as possible.

First time I have played this course. Playing from the gold tees (6500 + yards) I found the course to be a fun and challenging. I believe Devil's Claw plays tougher than the 123 slope it is rated.

The greens were outstanding, the course was pristinely manicured and all the staff were very friendly.

I will definitely return.

My wife and I were in Phoenix for 4 days of golf and Whirlwind was recommended to us on day 1. We were not disappointed. The course is in fabulous shape. We played Devils Claw. Next trip back I would definitely play Cattail.

Everything well manicured and maintained. Greens were very good for this time of year. Great practice area. If anything, couple bunker needed more sand. Would play again without hesitation.

A must play course! The fairways and greens were in perfect condition. They looked and played so good you couldn't tell if they were grass or artificial turf. I've played a half dozen courses (four star ratings) and this course was in the best shape than any of the other course coming off overseeing. A ranger was on the course to ensure the pace of play. The facilities were top notch. The holes were welll marked and easy to find. A very enjoyable course to play as it challenges all abilities and you use every club in your bag.

The course is great, I had only played it once before several years ago and my only complaint is the greens we a touch slow but in great shape.

Very nice facility and pleasant staff. Friendly, efficient and informative. Practice facility was adequately large, but could have been rotated a bit more to provide a nicer hitting area. Course was in very good shape and is a typical desert style. Only a couple of the holes are memorable. Tee boxes and fairways were well maintained. Greens were good with no apparent signs of stress and they rolled true. Well worth playing for the price. Had lunch in the grill and the food and service was very good. Biggest disappointment was with a name like "Devil's Claw" I was looking forward to a logoed shirt and they only have Whirlwind.

When we booked our tee time for our first round on this course we were very excited to try it. Sadly nobody mentioned that they had a junior tournament teeing off (Last group about 30 minutes before us). No mention at starter box there was a delay (Although Jordan there was awesome and very helpful otherwise).

When we hit about the 5th hole we ran into 3 groups waiting to tee off at the tee box, oh no. Finally as people started moving as slow as they had been, the ranger came up and told us the kids tournament was really slowing people down. They all walked, and their rangers might as well have not been there. Not sure why he needed to tell us that instead of having their rangers speed up play. Nothing offered to us other than a "Sorry I hope it speeds up."

Let's just say that it NEVER sped up, and we played our round in 5 hours and 45 minutes. Keep in mind that at the end of the round it was about 102 out, not very nice conditions to wait 15 minutes per shot.

Other than this course being one of the finest I have played in the valley this time of year, I won't be returning. Great team and course, but how it worked out with this tournament left us all cursing this place.

Troon courses are way too pricy to be playing 6 hour rounds, especially as we move into the busier season in the valley. Sad to leave such a bad review, but this was a really bad experience.

Well run facility, excellent course condition.

Wild Horse Pass is a fine resort with a great deal of things to do.

The course was in great shape...especially for the torrid Arizona summer. There are plenty of water stations. The ranger really does his job... and even drops off a wet towel that comes from and ice chest.

Most of the fairways are open and forgiving The greens are a moderate speed. Most of them have a possible way to approach them without fear. The rough is just thick enough to make you adjust for the situation. Play this course. If you are out of state--stay at the resort

Conditions on Devil's Claw were exceptional for this time of year. Green fairways and good greens. Except for a few holes, Devil's Claw has fairly wide fairways and the greens are large. The onboard GPS does a good job accounting for the pin positions. Arrive early to take advantage of the practice facilities.

The course is in great shape, and it played in 4 hours and could have played faster.
