what a course
By far the finest course in the Myrtle Beach area
Beautiful But Tough Course
The course layout is just a beauty. Love the Scottish design clubhouse. But don't let the beauty of the course deceive you. Greens are fast and pin placement is difficult.
Beautiful
Excellant conditions, nice fairways, water obstacles are present on many holes! The greens were nice and fast for this time of year.
Really tough but fun
Great course-unfortunately all local courses were water logged-fairways soggy but greens were still fair and in good condition
Best Condition of all course played near Myrtle Beach
Best condition of all courses I played. Normal green fees are a bit high but I was able to find discounted green fee.
Decent course, but would never pay full price of $100 to play
I was excited to play MacKay and Cameron as instructed when paying, but the starter changed that. Wasn't too happy about missing out on MacKay, because I was instructed that was the 9 holes to play and home of he toughest hole on the course. Cameron was just redone this year, but the putting green were like putting on artificial outdoor carpet. When playing Stewart we had a hard time finding a couple shots, due to the thick grass clumps from cutting the rough to the point it looked burned. All in all it was a subpar course, but for some reason it was rated in the top 5 for the Myrtle Beach area.
Would like to play Thistle when it not so soggy and cart path only
I like Thistle but I would just like to play it one time when the fairways were not soggy and balls were plugging on over half the holes. It is just not a lot of fun to play when the course is almost unplayable from a couple of weeks of tropical type rains.
The greens are nice and roll true. In the summertime, not very fast but still playable. I would imagine except when the course is very wet...it is probably very nice and well conditioned.
If you play Thistle, take some time and appreciate the clubhouse. It is gorgeous and well appointed.
The staff there is very friendly.
Excellent course
In great shape. A little pricey to competitors but enjoyed the track quite a bit... Was a little disappointed that we didn't get out to C 9 but was happy with the M an S 9s.
Wonderful experience
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all at the Thistle Golf Club for having us today. The weather looked gloomy at the start but turned out to be a dry day and the course was in great shape. Your entire staff from the bag drop to the counter staff were wonderful and very helpful, which made for a great day.
very nice course and staff
would play this course again! Staff was excellent.
beautiful shape.
Stewart/MacKay Review
The facilities and course were in A1 shape and all the staff were very courteous. Only negative was the Cameron nine and putting green were closed.
awesome course
thistle lived up to everything I heard about it. the course was in excellent condition other than greens being airfield but were rolling fair enough to putt on. I played from white tees and shot 75. bunkers galored with water all over the course and you have to manage your shots well or you will shoot a high score. I played at 4 pm for $29 on golfnow which was a incredible price. I recommend this course to anyone.
Great course, somewhat slow pace, silly prices for snacks and drinks.
The course was immaculate, the greens were perfect and the price on GolfNow was a real bargain. It took over five hours to play and a Gatorade was $3.50. So, if you want great golf conditions, like a leisurely pace and don't get thirsty, this is your place.
Very Good
This courses are much challenging. If you don't like water hazard, you should't play the courses.
Scenic and playable
Great course. Difficult approaches but very playable off tee. A course where you can actually hit your driver. For the price excellent value. Have played over 15 courses in mb area. One of best so far
A must play!
Great course, should be a part of your golf trip! Course is in great shape and staff is very friendly. Course is challenging, but fair! Multiple sets of tees make course enjoyable for all skill levels!
Highly recommend
All around a great experience. Friendly staff. Very nice practice facility with complimentary range balls. Went over to our cart about 15min before tee time and they asked if we'd like to go off right away. Course was in the best shape of any we've played this week. Greens were fast and true. Fairways and tee boxes well manicured. Bunkers in great condition. Course has generous fairways but a good amount of water and hazards in which to lose some balls. Interesting layout and very playable for the higher handicappers. Played a lot of courses in the area but this would be among the best.
Very Nice 27 hole course
My playing partner and I arrived about 45 minutes early for our 1257 tee time and were dismayed to see the parking lot overflowing with cars and the bag drop 3 bags deep. We just knew we were going to be looking at a 6-hour round. Surprisingly, we teed off on the Stewart course and were pleasantly surprised to see only one group on the green. Pace of play was great considering the cluster we saw upon arrival. The Stewart course was in great condition with green grass in the fairways and smooth rolling greens. This course is a challenge from the tips, but not exceedingly difficult. Water hazards were present on almost every hole, so be accurate with your shots. We made the turn and were very happy with this 9 holes. We then began the Mackay course. Again, no hole descriptions. The fairways were as expected and the layout was challenging as well. HOWEVER, the greens on this 9 holes were of a different grass then that of the Stewart course. The speed was nowhere near the same and the greens did not roll as true. It appeared that the greens had been sprayed green and were a little sandy. Most likely they had been rolled instead of being cut. It took us almost half of the holes to finally adjust to the difference of the greens. If at all possible, play Stewart and Cameron courses as the greens are consistent. Would still recommend as a great place to play. Will return many more times.
A Great Day at Thistle
The day started with an exceptional Rueben sandwich for $7.95, a great special and from then on, there were no complaints. If you shop carefully, there are some large discounts to be had for the green fees. The greens were like lightning, but puttable if you adapt carefully. The course was in better shape than most that we played. Due to the poor January and February, it was a little wetter than you might like, but that is the case at almost every Myrtle area course this year. This course will remain on my yearly wish list without a doubt!
Golf at Thistle
Excellent round. Played all 27 holes. Very challenging. Lots of water and bunkers. Nice greens. Pleasing to look at.
