Located in a nature reserve, the next stop is Espiche Golf Club in the Algarve, where this stunning course offers Chris a fantastic afternoon of golf. Where every effort has been put in to make this an environmentally and sustainably sound club, Chris plays the 3rd hole at this tranquil new course. Paul and Chris start off at Quinta do Lago Laranjal in the Algarve, the newest of the three courses at Quinta do Lago. The duo play the 18th hole, an interesting risk-reward par 5, by the lake. Chris gets competitive with Paul, but will he succeed? After a wonderful morning, Chris and Paul head north away from the Algarve towards Lisbon, to play Troia. It’s the first course in Portugal that Paul ever played. Paul remembers it well, as they both play one of the toughest courses in the country. They play the incredible 3rd hole, a par 4. Home of the Houston Open, the Rees Jones-designed Tournament Course at the Golf Club of Houston is one of the best conditioned layouts in the Houston area.
At most courses, the aiming point off the tee is to the left of a certain bunker or toward a tree off in the distance. At Bali Hai Golf Club, the points of reference are wildly more dramatic, like the giant "M" atop the golden Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino or the tip of the Luxor pyramid. What makes Bali Hai great is its ideal location on the Las Vegas Strip. The backdrop looks amazing, and the convenience of getting here trumps most rival golf courses in Sin City.
The Dye Club is the most exclusive of the four Barefoot Resort & Golf courses that opened simultaneously in 2000 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Playing The Dye Club, designed by Pete Dye, costs more than Barefoot's other resort courses. That exclusivity justifies the splurge. The Dye Club looks like a second cousin to both The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island and the Dye Course at French Lick Resort in Indiana.
The 7,024-yard El Camaleon Golf Club annually hosts the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, the PGA Tour's only stop in Mexico or the Caribbean. The Greg Norman design, tucked inside a lavish resort development 40 minutes south of the Cancun International Airport, traverses through three ecosystems: the jungle, mangroves and the beach.
At The Grand Golf Club, an amenity of the Fairmont Grand Del Mar resort in northern San Diego, Tom Fazio used his signature bunkering to frame holes and protect greens.
The Blairgowrie Golf Club -- one of Scotland's premier inland clubs -- offers choices galore for those visiting the magnificent Perthshire countryside. Hints of James Braid and Alister MacKenzie still resonate on the club's Rosemount Course.
Nairn Golf Club has the look and feel of a polished country club in the Scottish Highlands. Everything about Nairn, founded in 1887, delivers a first-class day, especially the 6,774-yard links tied to Old Tom Morris, James Braid and Ben Sayers. The greens here run as fast as any in Scotland.
The Caribbean's third-largest island isn't the best golf destination in the region (that would be the Dominican Republic) or the island with the most courses (that would be Puerto Rico). But Jamaica, home to nine courses and two nine-holers, offers plenty of reasons to drag your clubs south for a winter golf getaway.
The private Kingsley Club, located 20 minutes south of Traverse City, is the second-best private golf club in northern Michigan. Jason Scott Deegan tells how -- and why -- to play it.
Nearly two years in the making, The Cape Club in Falmouth, Mass. is a new public golf course built over the old Ballymeade C.C. It offers a stellar "country club for a day" experience.
When the tide is out, the marshes of the Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation look like a graveyard for golf balls. It's the best looking cemetery a golfer will ever see. The stirring views of the Intracoastal Waterway and the inlet leading to the ocean set Tidewater apart from its competition along the Grand Strand.
Don't just play golf at Vail Golf Club, the classic parkland muni located in the heart of the village. Add some exercise to your round. The 6,766-yard course is the rare layout in the Vail Valley where walking makes perfect sense. Riding is a great option, too: Not in a cart but on a golf bike.
Sanctuary Golf Club at Cat Island is what its name implies: a peaceful, serene layout where only a few houses spoil the beauty of the South Carolina Lowcountry. The cathedral clubhouse at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California serves as the symbol of just how classy clubs must be to thrive in the Coachella Valley. Troon Golf runs a first-class operation, and the 7,332-yard Arnold Palmer design provides a first-class test with water coming into play on 12 holes. Course conditions are good enough to still host the pros, as the semi-private club did during the Bob Hope Classic from 2006-08.
Located just outside of Malaysia's largest city, Kuala Lumpur, Saujana Golf & Country Club is home to two of the country's best golf courses: The Palm and the Bunga Raya. And while the Palm course is a host to the European Tour's Maybank Malaysian Open, the Bunga Raya remains a very worthy follow-up.
The layout of The Coast Golf Club is quirky but the views sublime.
