Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Great day Of golf
Course was in great shape on a beautiful day greens ran true
Always the best
Pauite is first class. Everything is plush green and immaculate. All three courses are phenominal. I come to Vegas to golf every year and never miss playing here. This picture of the Sun course just sums it up. Shout out to Tanner in the pro shop!
Desert golf at its finest
Played the Wolf course last January and enjoyed it. Course conditions then were great. Played Sun mountain second time around and conditions were just as good- even better. Pace of play was great. Booked a twilight rate for about $75 per person and got 18 holes in with no problem. Wouldn’t hesitate to come back.
Great Course
Always a great time on this course. Everything was in great shape. Super fun round.
Consistently Good
Nothing to criticize here! Paiute is a first-rate facility and we go back due to that. The course is well-maintained and they are courteous and helpful.
One of the better values around Vegas, we love it, keep up the great work!
Paiute Sun
Scenery is fantastic. Well groomed and condition.
Course is a bit boring. Nothing special.
Best Course in Vegas
Yes it’s a drive out there for residents but it’s well worth the drive and money spent. You won’t find a more pure or pristine course in the area without spending upwards of $300. I’ve played every course in town from cascata to shadow creek and I’m still choosing Paiute over those others.
Amazing Jr Rates!
Took my son. Amazing time. Course is fast. Jr rate is $20 is incredible! Highly recommend.
Desert golf, with beautiful Mountain View’s!
The course was in very good condition and we played in 4:15 minutes.
Sun Mountain Beauty
All golf course, no houses. In the desert so quiet and spectacular vistas. Tough but fair layout.
Very cold
49 degree and 35mph winds. Other than that wonderful track! Uncrowded and beautiful, great clubhouse and facilities. Will play again for sure!
Screwed by Golf Now
As usual use a third-party app and we get screwed. There was a tournament going on before our time. It was ALL backed up. Pace was horrible. After nine we asked to get a rain-check for nine and the pro shop was amenable UNTIL they saw we had booked here. SCREWED again!
