The Walker Golf Course at Clemson University

I absolutely love this track and try to play there as often as I am remotely close.

For my latest round a couple of weeks ago, I happen to drive several hours to get to the course, as I was headed back home from being out of town.

I actually called and spoke to the pro shop staff five times over the course of four days, as I was actually trying to find an earlier teatime opening. This i is critically important because not a single time during any one of those phone calls. Did anyone mention the entire practice facility was shut down for construction.

So when I pulled up after almost 3 Hours Dr., and getting there over an hour earlier on purpose to warm up and get loose, you can imagine how shocked I was when all I saw was dirt where the practice range was.

Huge mistake on the entire golf staff, for never mentioning this, and even after engaging in several of them prior to teatime, they all admitted that if they did tell people that the practice facility was closed that they would have even fewer golfers show up.

In other words, not sharing this critical information was and is on purpose. I emailed the head pro the following week and he seemed surprised this critical aspect was never mentioned… Even though his staff openly admitted that if they did share that information when people made teetimes, that it would probably be a ghost town

Needless to say, that was the most frustrating round as I was stiff as a board, so no warm-up and no idea of the speed of the greens

I’m a + 1 handicap who has seen pga courses and $15 dollar dog tracks. This course is great. If this course had a driving range and a little bit better pace of play I’d give it 5 stars solely for the upkeep on a public course alone. It’s easily one of the best courses in the area and for a public course that’s somewhat affordable it is honestly the best. Just go play it. If you’re a single be prepared to be paired up if it’s a busy tee time. I usually go in the mornings if I wanna lock in on my own. Carts are the nicest in the entire area. You will get your camera out for the water views of hartwell. Usually you have to get tee times atleast a day out so plan ahead. I give design a 4.0. It really could be lower just because almost every hole is dead straight and flat. It’s no artists course is all. It’s perfect if you want to go out and hunt pins all day.

This is a beautiful challenging course that was a pleasure to play. The lack of a driving range or even a practice green was a glaring miss.

Outside of the private courses in the Upstate of SC, this course is one of the best taken care of. The friendliness of the entire staff was great and welcoming. The greens held true / consistent and rolled smooth and were very fast the day we played. Looking forward to the warmup and practice facilities being completed. The only issue we experienced was the 4 college guys who pushed us the last 6 holes, while we were on pace with a good playing time, finished the round in just under 4 hours.

I have played golf regularly for the past 8 years. This is the best course I have ever played on. I played with 3 other friends and we all feel the same. Keep up the good work !!

Loved the course, we went out at 5:10 PM but couldn’t finish do to darkness
