Sun Mountain at Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort
About
At the Sun Mountain course at the Las Vegas Paiute Resort, Pete Dye uses the rolling terrain in an almost links-style design.
Straying from fairways can put you in the fescue grass, but this isn't the ball-gobbling fescue you'd expect from Dye. If anything Sun Mountain plays easier than Snow Mountain. The 140 slope rating from the back tees might even seem a little inflated when you're out on the course.
Which isn't to say it's a complete pushover. It's still a Dye after all. It still has bunkers you'll remember. Or lose sleep over.
Take the green-guarding bunker on the 219-yard par-3 14th. It is so steep in front that you almost have to hit the ball straight up in the air to get it out successfully. Some hackers become so unnerved by this bunker that they hit out backward, going back toward the fairway to escape. Yes, even at his kindler, gentler best, Pete Dye can make golfers retreat on a course.
Sun does not hit you with much water, but it makes good use of the vast Paiute landscape. There are huge desert areas between the holes, giving each hole a sense of isolation. You're not going to be observing someone's shank on a parallel fairway.

Picturesque number five is a great–though quite intimidating–driving hole. A cluster of five bunkers guards the right side, which is the shorter route to the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

The par-4 sixth hole, ranking as the #1 index, tops out at 426 yards. While not a terrifying hole, it demands four good shots for a par. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

he serpentine fairway at eleven, the course’s second-longest par-5, wriggles uphill past six strategically-placed bunkers. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Dye reveled in the creation of optical illusions: at the 219-yard 14th, it is hard to tell (even from this more elevated view than the tee’s) that the two larger bunkers rest some 45 yards short of the green, not next to it. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Fifteen is about as clever as a short par-4 gets. A split fairway, separated by three large bunkers, allows for strategic play from tee to green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 12/16/2025

Sun, Snow and Mountain
Amazing facility! The 19th hole needs a few improvements. PGA championship was on but no volume, the monitors are tiny and few. For a facility of this caliber the 19 hole should be up to the standards of the 3 amazing courses. Beautiful patio but no monitors, misters and the staff won’t serve you. I’m all about relaxing after a round of golf with my buddies in a setting that’s better than my living room. Take it to the next level and make golfers want to stay for more than one cocktail. I played 3 days that weekend and will go back! It’s about 10f cooler than the Vegas valley.
Great course (Snow)
Very nice course/ excellent in every way.
Service was excellent as well...in spite of Corona virus / state mandates in place.
Highly recommend
John / Yorktown, VA
Solid Layout
Sun Mountain is the lesser of the three courses at Paiute but still a solid track.
Good times
This course is one the the best in Las Vegas and although it’s not cheap but price is fair for the course and it’s not easy but very fair for average players
Awesome course
Awesome golf complex with quality service and amenities. My group will be back again on our next visit to Vegas.
Awsome set up- great staff
Played here...course condition & staff service excellent-asexpected
All of the Paiute course are bucket list courses!
I played Snow, Sun and Wolf on the same week and honestly, all 3 were the same level of excellence and loved all of them. While I played Snow and Sun early int he week when the wind was whipping hard it was fun. Wolf was Thursday the same week and calm by that time and the Island Green was excellent. You could pick any of the 3, play it forward depending on your handicap and it will be a top 10 golf experience for sure.
Excellent
Very beautiful course! Fairway and green in very good condition, worth to play here. We , foursome finished 18 holes in 4 hours. Perfect pace. We enjoyed. Thanks
perfect golf course
My foursome kept praising my choice of Las vegas Paiute Sun Mountain course on our golf trip.Everything was great, except the temperature that day. Conditions were impeccable, The service top notch and the course very challenging but enjoyable.
A short drive from the strip and you are in an amazing venue, Scenery and layout are just too great to explain here. Do not miss out if you are in Vegas
Hot deal ? WAAAAY over booked.
Two hours and 20 minutes for 8 holes ???? While weather was initially fine, by the time we reached 14th hole, sun was low and wind was high. So we left. Certainly did not amortize the hefty cost playing only 14 holes. Zero course management to press slow groups, one of which had 5 players. Though local, we, had to travel a long way to get there. Will rethink future bookings there.
excelllent golf course
first time play at this course the pace very slow take over 5 hours to finish the round.
No Shortage of Wind
The layout plays fair from the tee and with today’s two club wind finding the fairway was possible and keeping it out of the desert was not impossible. Growing grass is not a problem here. Most lies in the rough sat up making it easy to find your ball and to advance it toward the green. The greens were firm, fast and rolled fairly smooth. Didn’t notice much on shorter putts, but longer putts did bounce some. The bunkers I found were maintained and had plenty of sand.
Pace of play was right at 4h25m. I rarely waited and never saw the group behind me. The beverage cart made plenty of laps and everyone on the staff I encountered was friendly, cordial and appreciative. The practice facilities are top notch and accurately represent on course conditions. Overall a very solid value.
Second time at Paiute.
We played Sun this time.Fabulous conditions on the entire course. Greens are perfect. We played Wolf last time and both courses are top 10 if you've been to any of the very nice courses around the country. If you haven't been to Paiute, you need to go!
Loved it!!!
Worth the drive. Course was in great shape. Great layout and pace of play was good.
Great experience with Beginners
I have played Sun Mountain several times and love it. I invited my brother-in-law who is a raw beginner to play with me. The course layout and fairways are wide enough to keep most of even a beginner's shots in play and easily to find, making for a pleasant experience and hooked him on golf. Challenges exist around the greens and with numerous bunkers but layout is friendly enough to make hitting a ball in the desert or unplayable happen only on a big mishit. Staff was helpful with free water in the heat 100 degrees and we stayed comfortable. Great time!
