Thistle Golf Club - MacKay Course

This was our third time playing this past couple weeks. Course conditions are fantastic. On this woeful Thursday though they decided to do a double cross over on only 18 of thr 27 holes. We were not informed. Being 3rd out and a Twosome behind 2 member threesomes we just sat back about a hole and kept pace with the threesomes (poking along a great 3 hour pace to 18 holes). At the turn they allowed the two member groups through, and parked us. So ended up being 4hrs and 15 minutes (1.5 hours for the front and 2 hours 45 minutes on the back) Had we known I would have skipped a hole on the front or pushed to play through. As the saying goes nice guys finish last. Great course people are friendly but this would turn me off.

Only issue id comment on was food we ordered at the start of hole 8 wasnt ready when we got there and took about 15 minutes to get to us which put us further behind pace which is pretty strictly enforced. Hot dog, chicken tenders and fries. not exactly long lead items. Fries had obviously been under heat lamp for a while and overall quality of the food was subpar in my opinion. everything else was top notch and will definitely return.

One of my favorite courses. Great starter, got through playing 9 holes and went around the turn and ranger stopped the group ahead of us to tell them to let us play through because I was a single. Great experience!

Everything about Thistle was outstanding

The course was in great shape, the clubhouse was stunning, even the golf cart’s leather seats felt like I was getting into a Mercedes. The best part was the placement of the forward tees. As a senior woman golfer I was able to play at pace with 3 long hiitting men.

Each whole had different challenges. Beautiful and peaceful. The best thing I found as a senior lady golfer was the forward tees. They allowed to play at pace with the 3 men I played with.

Best course we have played in Myrtle Beach area. Highly recommend this place!

Played years ago for the first time! Couldn’t pas up a good hot deal in this course. Course in fantastic shape especially for November

This was my first time playing Thistle and I wasn't disappointed.

Beautiful layout and the greens were perfect.

A bounty of sand traps, many that I seemed to end up in.

The staff, both inside and out, were extremely friendly and professional.

Would definitely recommend this course.

Interesting course. The greens were in very good condition. New carts, good amenities with clubhouse drinks and food. The only drawback I found is the addition of a plastic ring at the top of each hole. I’ve played with this device in place before and understand why a course uses it however it definitely affects the result of a good putt. We had multiple putts lip out as a group. That ruined the overall experience.

This is my fourth visit to Myrtle Beach for a week each and my wife & I have played about 15 different courses over the years. This was the best of them starting from when we got there to when we left. The outside golf services folks were awesome and the course was in great shape.

We would definitely come back to this course the next time we are in the Myrtle Beach area, as long as it was still available on TeeOff or GolfNow.

Course is in great condition. Layout is challenging but fair. Plenty of beverage carts - we saw one every 3/4 holes. Carts have extra thick leather seats. Starter very friendly and informative. Would play there again.
